Tiny House Discussion - Recurring Meetup!

This is the first meetup of an ongoing series. We will be meeting every 8 weeks on Sunday, 3pm, at Coffee with a Beat in Oakland. Please join us to discuss tiny houses and feel free to bring books and articles that you would like to share.

These meetups will focus on the logistics of building/designing/owning a tiny home either on a foundation or a trailer. There is potential during these meetups to network possible tiny house parking, or even dream together of co-owning land where we could zone it to be a tiny house neighborhood? Who knows?! This group will bring the opportunity to answer the many questions that we all want to discover as the "Tiny House Movement" grows.

Co-organizers Alyx and Sienna will also be at these meetups. Sienna is in the process of building her own tiny home.

Hope to see you there!

Lauren, Alyx and Sienna

Well the days of watching the episode free on the internet is over, we tried to watch the third episode of tiny house nation and now the website requires you login with your comcast id to verify you have a cable service. If not no episode and I just canceled my cable service two weeks ago. Stuff like this will makes me never go back

They'll probably lose a good portion of their target audience now. If you really want to see the show I just checked and you can purchase each episode for$1.99 on amazon.com.

I know that we've talked about posting to different locations. I'd prefer not FB. can we gather all of these past posts and put them on a meetup discussion board or is it ok to continue here? I still can't figure out how to do the "good to see you" hopeless in some ways...good at research!

I actually don't want to lose everything we've been writing about. is there a way to move these converations to the discussion heading. any geeks out there that know this stuff? I don't want to lose the thread-of course not my decision

There's no automated method. You can take the info you most want to preserve and copy/paste it into any relevant threads you create on the discussion forum, though.

The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” –Thoreau http://tinyhouselistings.com/the-fair-price-of-tiny-homes/
excerpt: ... All of the same care goes into these tiny homes when they are built by builders but their customers also benefit from experience that DIY builders simply don’t have. … fair price for a tiny house built by a professional? ..only fair price for a tiny home is the amount of your life you’re willing to trade for it. Do you want to spend months ..building your tiny house yourself? Do you want to take the time to salvage materials & work w/ them to make sure they are suitable..? Or, … rather trade your time working a job for a salary & save the money that will be used to build your tiny home? When a builder constructs a tiny home they not only have to charge for the materials used but also their time to build. This is their full time job and they deserve a fair wage for it. …This is the way our economy works by trading money for services.

I really liked it and I look forward to the coming season. I though it was refreshing with the quality camera work and good narration and likable hosts. Ive been a bit burned out on the YouTube documentaries with overly dramatic narration, the worst offender in my mind is Kirsten Dirksen and her documentary "we the tiny house people"

I just got word from one of the trailer manufacturers that I've been dealing with decided that they want nothing to do with Tiny Houses. They said they will not build any trailer for someone if they know it will be used for a tiny house. No worries though there is many more out there, I just thought it was strange

    from the same link...

...So if you’re thinking about petition your local government to allow the construction of tiny homes here are some tips that might help you get started (and a petition that you can sign really quick to start encouraging change right now).

If you agree that zoning should be changed to allow tiny houses to be built and lived in so that we can have more affordable housing available all over the world you can start inspiring change by signing the petition https://www.change.org/petitions/remove-city-ordinances-that-prevent-tiny-homes

There was a meeting today of the East Bay Tiny House Enthusiasts (look on meetup and join group discussion).  General tiny house construction questions were discussed as well as interest in various living situations such as rural, backyard,  and cohousing.   This group will soon have another meetup to view and discuss one of the following videos:

    1) Tiny: A Story about Living Small (movie on Netflix)

    2) Tiny House Challenge (on HGTV this Wednesday; hopefully someone will record)

    3) Tumbleweed Tiny Home Construction Video (DVD available through group)

A subgroup will also convene soon to discuss the prospect of an East Bay Tiny House Co-op.  Please join us for this meetup group which will be posted under the East Bay Tiny House Enthusiasts meetup group.

Cinna,  Siena,  Raines,  Ben, and others plan to attend as well as any others interested in a community proposal.

We're gearing up for a Tiny House Co-op / Cohousing meeting within 3-9 days. Watch notices from EBtinyHOUSEenthusiasts for details. Anyone have a free space for 20-30 people?

      July 7, 2014

    • Raines C.

We can probably host in our Ebcoho clubhouse at the long haul near ashby bart, subject to scheduling.
