Too Young to have had a Stroke!

I am a 46 year old mother of 4 children who has survived two strokes & multiple TIAs in less then two years. I would love to meet up with others like me who have had to deal with trying to overcome the effects of their strokes while still being an active member of their family. I think that we can support each other and share resources, strength and experiences. The demands and recovery expectations of 'younger' stroke survivors is much different than that for someone who is older. Their children are no longer at home, often, they have reitred, so they do not have to worry about returning to work, people are expecting them to have disabilities and to need time to recover. I have found that as a younger stroke patient, I have had a difficult time even receiving respectful medical care. My strokes affected me cognitively, more so than physically, so people do not understand why I am not the old me. I am still struggling to re-learn a place in my family. I am sure that there are others like me out there who are feeling the same thing. So, If you are under the age of 60 and you have had a stroke, please consider joining us.

"I almost died with a massive brain related stroke that completely paralyzed my entire left side. Went through intense physical therapy for 6 months and not able to get back to jogging for a year, now I run everyday and encourage others."

"45 yr old male who had a stroke to my insular region of my brain sometime this past year. Symptoms are wicked anxiety, depression, burning muscles, and more and I get no help from the doctors. I need someone who has gone through this to help me."
