Elevated Trail Design with TORC Briar Chapel work day

Elevated Trail Designs, LLC. is sponsoring a volunteer work day with TORC!

Check them out here:  http://www.elevatedtraildesign.com/

                                 https://www.facebook.com/elevatedtraildesign

Directions:

Use the provided Meetup link to find your way to Briar Chapel but do not drive all the way into the development.  You will turn into Briar Chapel Parkway (right or left depending on your direction from[masked]).  You will take a left turn on Cattulo Run, which is the second left paved road.  Look for a red Nissan Frontier.  If the parking lot is full, park along Cattulo Run road.

8:55 we will have a brief safety speech

9:00 we will hand out tools and walk out to the build site

Work day will last approximately 3-4 hours

We will be working on approximately 300' of new trail.  Volunteers will be working on the finish work behind the machine.  When doing finish work you are letting the machine do all the heavy work of grading the tread and providing the bench cut.  All we have to do is remove any dug up roots and rocks, level the tread, compact and make sure our down slope is free of debris that will block water drainage off the tread, narrow our tread width and broadcasting our work.  There are a few more steps to finishing trail that will be covered while we are working.  There will be plenty of knowledgeable trail crew leaders on hand to make sure everybody knows what they are doing.

TORC will provide all the hand tools.  Please feel free to bring a standard garden rake and shovel just in case.

Please bring water, gloves and shoes that will provide some safety to using hand tools.

Depending on the weather, we will have a post work day ride.  Post work day food will be provided by Briar Chapel and refreshments will be provided by TORC.

Big thanks to Elevated Trail Design for sponsoring a volunteer work day. Big thanks to Native Trails for joining us. Huge thanks to all the volunteers that showed up, you did some awesome trail building today.

I was wondering when I saw Stewart in the pics. Thought maybe he changed the name of his company. Who runs Elevated Designs?

Hey Everyone, let's all bring garden rakes and shovels. I will have all the TORC tools but I want to make sure we have enough trail 'finishing' tools. Rakes and shovels are great for smoothing and leveling loose soil for the trail tread. Looks like a lot of good volunteers are coming out. That's great, very excited to build even more trail.
