Post BD\NL Challenge work day at Beaverdam trails

Post Beaverdam\New Light Challenge Race 'work day'.

Thanks to the Beaverdam State Recreation Park and the park rangers, we had an excellent race over the winter.  As part of the agreement for the race, TORC promised to do some maintenance work on the trails.

Let's all show the park how grateful we are for them working with the mountain bike community and build on our relationship by coming out to the first of two work days to do some trail maintenance.

Parking:  Parking at the lot near the entrance to West\Inner\Outer Loop trail head.  The BD\NL Race picture below is right at the intersection into the parking lot.

Meeting time:  9:00am

Safety meeting:  9:15am

Tasks:  Rock armor one of the stream crossings on the South Loop that stays wet during the rainy and winter seasons.  Fix a washed out fall line section on the South Loop using harvested dirt near the trail section.

Tools:  Shovels and wheel barrows.  TORC will have the rest of the tools.

This work day will be more labor intensive and will definitely need the most amount of people possible.  Please come out and help take care of the Beaverdam South Loop and continually improve the mountain bike community relations with the Beaverdam Park.

Thanks for organizing this David. It was great to come out and meet some fellow riders and help keep the trails we ride in good shape. Fixing problem areas are eventually going to lead to fewer rain closures! Thx

We had a great work day, despite the little bit of rain. Thanks to all the guys that showed up, very much appreciated. Thanks to Corey for the actual armoring, looks great. Write up and pics: http://torc-nc.org/2014/07/beaverdam-work-day/

I am waiting on communication from Beaverdam, either to do some rock armoring or some dirt work. I need to give the quarry some notice and so if I don't hear any feedback by Wednesday about instructions for dropping off rock, I will cancel that part of the work day. As far as the dirt work, let's go ahead and put a notice for Wednesday on that as well.

There's plenty of rock near the stream crossing - just need a dolly or wheel barrow to move it.

Ok, we are good to go for this Sunday. Let's focus on the rock armoring.

Feeling a bit guilty because I ride Beaverdam most weekends when it's open "due to dry weather" and I can't be there to help because we have guests coming in from out of town Friday night and leaving late Sunday.
Perhaps consider the work over a period of two weekends?
