New Light work day

New Light work day!

Logging is completed, time to go in and get New Light ready to ride again.

This will be a combination of recovering old existing trail as well as putting in new connector trail due to the loss of some old trail because of logging.

Rockhound\Corey will be our new New Light trail coordinator which I am excited about.  He will be good to have a New Light.

Meet:  8:45am

Safety speech/quick review of bench cutting trail:  9am

Work description:  This will be a strict 3.5-4 hour work day.  We will need at least one sawyer to help clear trail.  We will be clearing trail behind the sawyer and it would be good if we had a leaf blower as well.  We will be building new trail and bench cutting new trail.  Proposed trail has all ready been flagged.  We will be building natural features to the side of the trail or can be rolled using existing topography and material on site.

Tools:  Experienced insured sawyers and leaf blowers.  TORC will provide the tools and if the groups look to be big (hopefully) then we may ask for people to bring additional tools.

Bring plenty of water, gloves, boots or sturdy work shoes, bug repellent and adequate clothes.

This will be a series of work days, on Sundays, until we are finished.

It's important that we get large groups of volunteers for these work days.  We will have a lot of work to do and some fun trails to build.

Quite the group today. These guys and gal really stomped out some new trail. Outstanding job. Thanks to all of you who rsvp'd and actually followed through with your rsvp. This next work day is the even more fun part. We will be working the down hill section. Plus, the two New Light trail coordinators and I are working out some details to get some food and drinks out there. Please come out and enjoy building/maintaining the trails that you and others will ride.

I'll be out at NL on Sunday, working on some of the overgrowth on Downfall & Gauntlet - probably starting around 7 am.

There wasn't any rain out here on Sunday. Despite a little mud on the fire roads, the trails were fine.

Weather for this weekend. I'm hoping we receive the most rain on Saturday and either clears up Sunday or just a little rain. The only concern I have is that we get showers during the work day. If it's damp from Saturday or Sunday rain or is raining lightly on Sunday, I'm good to go. A little rain in mid 80 degree weather should be fine. The ground underneath will be mostly dry after clearing the organic material off the top.

Does the % chance of rain Sat / Sun have any bearing on the work day - it comes to mind that trying to blow wet leaves might be futile. Any guidance on this?

Bring a rake instead of a leaf blower if there are wet leaves. Or bring both in case it turns out to be 95 deg and things dry out in an hour.

Had some stuff I can't move come up, but I'll try to make it to some of the next workdays.

Could use one or two of those gas powered leaf blowers if anybody has one.
