TORC Raleigh Greenway Loop
At Rally Point a few week ago after our Friday Umstead ride it was suggested that we have a ride to check out the local greenways so here it is. This ride will be a loop around Raleigh and will include parts of the Crabtree Creek, Walnut Creek, Rocky Branch, and House Creek Greenways.
Ride leader: Anthony
Directions: Meet at the dirt parking lot next to the McDonalds beside Crabtree Mall.
Time: 10:00am. (Ride by 10:15am.)
Distance: ~23 miles. Planned Route
Type of ride: All skills, no drop ride but you should be in good enough shape that you're comfortable riding this distance at a decent pace without needing several long breaks. We'll stop to regroup and rest from time to time but I don't want this to turn into a 4 hour ride.
Speed: A pace that won't be punishing for those on a mountain bikes so probably an average in the 11-14mph range.
Details: The course is almost all paved. A short section of Crabtree Creek is dirt but can be bypassed. Without looking it up I would say 75-80% of the route is greenway. In a few spots we'll need to ride low traffic, low speed limit neighborhood side streets to link the greenway sections.
From the parking lot we'll head west along Crabtree Creek GW until it ends near Wake Med. From there we'll head south through a neighborhood to the Walnut Creek GW. This will be the only significant time spent off the GW. Walnut Creek will take us to Rocky Branch which runs through NC State. From there we'll head to House Creek that will take us by Meredith College and back to the mall.
You must wear a helmet while riding on the trails. Make sure you have plenty of water.
