I am planning to go to today's meeting, so I'll see you, Risa, at least! Anyone else planning to go, despite the snow?

    Hi Folks,

This is following our conversation about my friend's first novel that I couldn't remember the title of yesterday. It is "Taking in Strays: Leadership Lessons from Unexpected Places." I found 3 Lisa Harringtons on google and they had all written books, so I thought the link would be helpful.

Have a wonderful Christmas and I'll see you all next year.

    All the best, Kendra

I just saw this quote on line: "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." I don't know who said it.

Still under the weather -head congestion but, fever has broken and I need to break out of the Cabin Fever but feeling more energetic and so I could use a good belly laugh! Any details...since usually 2nd City shows are much more than $5, so I'm guessing it's in another room / part of the building?

    Hope you feel better Risa!

  • Risa

Actually, I've been sick all week, too. Thought I'd be alright for tonight but still coughing something fierce so I'm staying home. Good luck Stephanie.

Sorry I didn't make it to the meetup! :( I really enjoyed the group sharing & support.

I have been struggling to get my pages in regularly but I'm doing them as I go. Same with the reading ... I read The Artist's Way in bed, so it's on my mind last thing of the day, and 1st thing in the morning! :)

I look forward to meeting up with y'all next week!

Thanks for your reply. I am unexpectedly unable to attend the meetup at Starbucks today. So disappointed. Would love to hear about it and if there is something I should do before next weeks mtg.

    September 14, 2013

    • Evelyn

      Hi Marilyn,

First, read up to the end of week one in the book. Then do the Morning Pages every morning for 7 days. Do one or more Artist Dates. Do one hour long walk. Do 2 tasks from the task list near the end of week one. Pick one task that is a bit hard and will challenge you and make you grow. Pick one task that is fun for you. Don't worry if you can't do it all. No one has to do it all.

On September 21 we will all do a check-in and then discuss our experiences with week one.

      See you then. Evelyn

I am a visual artist. Have been painting for about 13 yrs now. I read The Artist's Way 10 yrs ago and didn't want it to end. I have also read Julia Cameron's next book which was also great for me. When I suggest reading these books to arti t friends, they don't seem interested. Lately I have been thinking I'd like to discuss these books with others. I ent on the internet and here I am, looking forward to Sat.'s meeting.

I know what you mean!! When I finished TAW the first time I wanted to talk to other people about it. That's why I formed my first group in the coffee shop. On Saturday you will meet people who know what you're talking about and going through. See you soon.

Could someone tell me how to put a photo beside my intro. I have a Samsung galaxie tablet.

    September 12, 2013

Sorry, I don't know how to do it from a tablet. Can you transfer the picture from the tablet to a computer first? I only know how to to do it from my laptop. Can anyone else help with this?

I will have to wait for the next circle group as I'll be missing 3 of the dates for the Fall Course.

    September 10, 2013

    • Evelyn

Dear Carol, If you still want to come for 10 meetings instead of 13 that is fine with us. Several members miss a few meetings and come back when they can. They just do the reading, tasks and Morning Pages at home that week. We are very flexible and even have members from years ago dropping in to say hello. Evelyn

It looks like the majority want to meet at Starbucks. See you all there on September 14 at 3pm.

    1 · August 18, 2013

  • Risa

I vote for Starbucks, too. It's like "home" to me for our Artist's Way groups. I've been attending the groups that Evelyn has organized for over 3 years at the same place and love the location.

    2 · August 12, 2013

  • Margaret C.

    I vote for Starbucks.

    August 10, 2013

  • Evelyn

Starbucks or The Grenadier Cafe in High Park?

What do the rest of you think? Would you like to change the location?

I'm not sure how private the Cafe would really be and would they expect us to place bigger orders for the use of the space. Starbucks can be inexpensive if you bring your own snack. It's up to the majority. Please let us know which location you would prefer and we'll go with the highest number.

    August 9, 2013

  • Evelyn

    Hi birgitta

The library charges $20.40 plus tax per hour for non-profit groups. $40.80 times 13 is $530.40

    From the TPL site:

    after you make a booking...

You will then receive a contract that you must return with payment within 10 calendar days of the tentative booking and with a minimum of two weeks before the first booking to confirm the booking. This has been talked about before and everyone ends up agreeing this is the best location. Others groups meet here too. The Starbucks we use has a large upstairs room, it is close to a subway station, there are lots of stores to shop in afterwards, and the staff has not bothered us once in over four years even if we stay 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes it is busy and noisy but we love the privacy. Some members bring in their own drinks and snacks. Do you know of a better place? I thinks the regulars like meeting here.

    August 9, 2013

    • birgitta

Off the top of my head, somewhat in the neighbourhood: The Grenadier Cafe in High Park, which also has inspiring views.

      August 9, 2013

    • Evelyn

Good idea. I think we should vote on it. Most of the regulars are happy where we are.

      1 · August 9, 2013

  • birgitta

I want to dare to risk to make a suggestion for an alternate meeting place, mainly, almost anything but Starbucks, as its politics and bulldozer ways of co-opting mom & pop established businesses & areas, & their controls of coffee trade and its effect on developing nations' economies, leaves me with a bad unconscious & unconscientious taste. Being of the sensitive artist ilk, I try to be aware and support local businesses, and avoid franchise conglomerates, especially for artistic & creative endeavours. :)

Any thoughts? Maybe a library meeting room / area? Which could be more private to boot?

Looking forward to the group. Always wanted to participate in an Artist's way group.
