Javascript Hack Night

Hack nights are a time to slough off your workaday shackles and stretch the limits of what you can do in javascript. It's a chance to experiment with new tools and techniques, learn new paradigms and practices, commiserate and collaborate with fellow devs and make interesting things.

We work in small, self-assembled groups and we'll share our results at the end of the night.

It's important to have project ideas ahead of time, so please do the following:

1. subscribe to js weekly

2. pick something interesting

3. post a comment about it here

Examples of interesting projects:

- try a framework: noflo, meteor, ~todomvc, etc

- try a library: q,, bilby, lemonad, etc

- try a language: fay, elm, roy, clojurescript, flapjax, etc

- try some web apis: audio, webgl, svg, webrtc, etc

- go parallel: workers, river trail, webcl, etc

We are beginner friendly. Here's some resources for getting up to speed with javascript:

Another great way to learn JS is by reading the source of good libraries -- underscore.js is a solid starting point.

Hitting this up for the first time ever with another dude from Jam3. (trying to recruit some others)

I'll be working on either a library I've started where you can create layouts regardless of render context (dom or canvas 2d or webl) using verbose "designer speak". (need to make some unit tests and create "examples")

I'll be working on a service I've started creating which is for testing visuals (designers export vs actual rendered page). This uses NodeJS + PhantomJS. If I work on this I'll be writing a grunt plugin which renders out the pages to be tested.

i want to make a project template that integrates ng-boilerplate into a cordova project structure plus throw in an express app with shared model code between fe/be. Need help finding a more fun usecase than the standard todo app. Or just discuss why this isn't a useful idea...

I'll be playing with streams and generators in node. This is a fun way to get up to speed with streams:

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
