Redpath Waterfront Festival Toronto| Tall Ships| Saturday, June 22, 11 AM

Avast Ye Swabs... The Tall Ships Are Invading Toronto!!

One of the most anticipated events this summer is the Redpath Waterfront Festival!

There will be a fleet of at least 12 tall ships that will be gracing our shores from June 20-23, and we're going to take pictures.

We'll meet at outside the front gates of the ferry terminal and wander around the various ship decks and take as many pictures as possible.

The last time the tall ships were here in 2010 there were incredible photo opportunities. This year's festival promises to be just as great. (Here's a link to the Photo Gallery of shots our members took on the Trillium Cruise during that year's Parade of Ships).

It's best to buy your pass online, as ticket prices are much higher on site. There are different prices each day, and there's a muilti-day pass available in the event that you want to check out the ships on other times.

I recommend the Priority Pass, as you'll be able to bypass any lineups. You'll definitely want to spend more time taking pictures on board than standing in line.

There is an additional promo code "Insider" that you can use for a further 15% discount. The code is available until June 3.

CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets directly from the festival.

See you there.

Greetings. Even with the rain we really enjoyed this event, thanks for organizing it. I just uploaded the pictures I am willing to show. My husband came with me as a guest, his pictures will come later. Hope to see you all again

What time do they set sail tomorrow. And would the central island or the lighthouse at TT park be a good vantage point?

      Hi Jeff!
The sail pass is at HTO park, is the last tall ship, close to the biggest Sorlandet. But you need to go early to sing up, the tour lasts two hours.

Thanks Frank & Juliana, Unfortunately I will be unable to make it down for the parade today. I did manage to get a few interesting images yesterday.

It worked out for me and had a good time. After trying to find ppl but no luck. I ended up going inside pawsway and found their water dogs event and started shooting dogs, even followed them on a parade. But then i was able to meet up with Ian and shot more ships, with rain coming down at us at times. I think we left at 2?

Well, to be fair, there was the Dragon Boat Festival this weekend as well (which I totally forgot about - they apparently rescheduled them from Father's Day weekend) and the ferry docks were too crazy. I did get distracted by the 1812 events so I did separate from the group very early (that and also because I wanted to see as many ships as possible before the downpour part II).

Ian, Thanks for organizing. Thanks as well to all who braved the elements and the cartographic confusion. Too bad it poured and there were so many people that we couldn't seem to get or stay together at least for a while. I'm about to have a look at what I managed to shoot, I hope I got at least a few interesting images.
I look forward to trying again at another Meetup.

Too bad the rain decided to crash the party. I hope people got some good pictures. My apologies for not getting a more accurate location to meet.

Hi Ian, I was down to Harbourfront following the map and the instructions I got from the TTC. Its a dog's breakfast with the TTC down in that area so I walked from King along Simcoe. I started at 10:45 to find the group but you know everyone has photo equipment so that was not a stand out. I searched and did my own photo shoot until 12:30 to no avail. I don't own a smart phone or other device to get your messages. I did ask for directions from the sailing school gals. But it appears I was in a totally different part of the harbour than you. Sorry about that and I'm sorry I didn't get to meet anyone. I met more people yesterday when I went down to get my bearings for today but I must have read the map all wrong and I couldn't find anything labeled The Ferry Docks or find a gate. Usually I'm very good with directions. Oh well I had my own photo shoot both days. Thanks anyway. Liz

I'm with you- I couldn't find either the docks or a gate. According to google maps on my phone, the destination was right near the ticket tent where you got your priority pass, so that's where I stood around for about 15 minutes in the rain...

      June 22, 2013

  • Simon C.

The rain meant people were scattered and I never found people at the beginning of the meetup, so ended up shooting solo.

    June 22, 2013

  • Simon C.

Like Liz, I couldn't find the group, and standing around in the pouring rain hoping any group of people I saw with more than 2 cameras was us didn't seem all that appealing. So I went through the ships for a couple of hours on my own, then when it started to rain again I moved on :)

    June 22, 2013

  • Liz C.

I couldn't find anyone of the group to meet up with and I searched and had my own photo shoot for about two hours and then had to leave for another engagement. Thanks. Liz

    • Ian M.

Sorry we missed you Liz. The rain really put a damper on the event. Everybody kind of dispersed right at the beginning of the day.

      June 22, 2013

  • Jeff

Hmmm. I am here at the entrance to the ferry with a few others. Is there anyone else here. Look for bright green shirt.

    June 22, 2013

I couldn't find anyone so started touring the ships. Nice photography, but no meet up today...

I was looking forward to the Harbour Queen cruise but since it's not happening I'll see the ships next week in Hamilton.

Do we purchase tickets for the Trillium Cruise separately from the Priority Pass? Will the Trillium accommodate for the photo opportunities as last time? Will we all be sailing at the same time?

    June 17, 2013

    • Ian M.

Unfortunately, we are not going on the Trillium Cruise this time around. The ship is not being operated this year.

      June 20, 2013

    • Ian M.

Also... due to my personal schedule, I was unable to commit to a sail. I know that the Kajama and Empire Sandy will be participating in the Parade of Sail

Some people are not too clear on where we're meeting.. according to what's written above the information here: "Look for a bunch of people outside the Ferry Gates carrying cameras and accessories" I hope that clarifies things a bit.
