Essentials of Seeing focuses on the basics of photography. You'll learn about the essentials of form and composition in photography (as well as other visual art forms). You'll also learn about your camera's functions- Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO- so you can to take better pictures. This workshop is for beginners or those who want a refresher on photography basics.
Creative Vision. Tap your inner artist to go beyond taking pictures of what's immediately visible in the world around you. Learn how you can use extended techniques, such as long exposures, Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), zooming, free-lensing, and more, to add creative elements to your photography. You'll also explore the use of found glass (provided at the workshop) to add creative effects to your images.
Portfolio Builder Photo Session with Model... In this 3 hour session you will have the opportunity to shoot with a model in an outdoor session that will feature the beautiful surroundings of the Bridgewater Retreat. The modelling session includes several looks with wardrobe changes. In the event of rain, the sessions will be held indoors in the studio and 19th Century lodge.
Light Painting with Model... Utilizing the techniques that you've learned in preceding workshops, especially the Creative Vision Workshop, you'll work with our model to create stunning images with light painting. Through extended techniques, such as long exposures, utilizing glass pieces and other light sources, these images will add a unique look to your portfolio.
Looking Closely - Macro and Texture Photography... In this session, you'll get up close and personal with the world around you. Taking advantage of the unique shooting opportunities at Bridgewater Retreat- the beautiful gardens, many varieties of trees, caves and rock faces, mosses, insects, and more- you'll learn macro photography techniques that will allow you to capture tiny details like never before. While it's not necessary to have a specific macro lens, it is recommended. We'll also explore texture photography. You'll learn how to create images that are specifically designed to use as backgrounds and base layers that you can add to your images using editing software, such as Photoshop and GIMP.
Open Photography Sessions leave you free to explore Bridgewater Retreat and the surrounding area with your camera. Ian will be available to answer questions about techniques and creative photography, and you'll also opportunity to share ideas and information with the other photographers as you build your skills.
ABOUT THE RETREAT LEADERS
Ian McIntosh is passionate about photography. He started at a very early age, taking shots with his father's twin lens reflex camera. He developed a love for the darkroom quite early on, spending numerous hours learning how to use the enlarger and chemicals to create black and white images. Once digital editing was introduced, Ian moved to editing on the computer. Always interested in stretching the boundaries of his art, whether in music (his first profession) or in photography, Ian approaches the art form with a keen sense of exploration. He loves creating fine art images based on light, music, and the world around him, and loves sharing his knowledge with others.
Yoga Retreat leader, local and international teacher Joanne Lougheed, has been teaching in studios and resorts for over 13 years. The wide range of experience gained through almost 40 years of mindfulness practice and study makes her the expert that will help you discover how yoga can benefit your body. Joanne believes yoga is for everybody, so you're sure find the style that's just right to help you relax and recharge while you're here.
