Let's Ask Noah Gibbs, Author of Rebuilding Rails

Is your experience as a dev more or less limited to Rails? Do you spend more time worrying about colouring outside the lines of the framework than wondering how you can improvise with it? Are you intimidated at the thought of opening files outside the MVC folders, let alone a Gem?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, I think you'll find Noah Gibbs' "Rebuilding Rails" a valuable and encouraging read. As the title suggests, Noah walks his readers through the creation of an MVC framework that captures the basic functionality of Rails. It's an accessible tutorial, perfect for any dev who is too new to the game to ever have encountered the challenges that Rails solves so succinctly; one is so much more versatile with a tool once they understand it after all.

Noah will be joining the TorontoRB via Google Hangout to discuss a couple of chapters from the book - about Rack and ActiveRecord respectively - and answer any questions you might have for him.

Program:

7:00 - 7:30: Mingling. Pizza. Beer. Not necessarily in that order. (No shirt, no shoes, no problem).

7:30 ~ 9:00: Noah Gibbs' talk, and Q&A

9:00 - 10:00: Leftover mingling, pizza, and beer. Don't forget your shirt and shoes on the way out.
