I was born a transhumanist. I discovered I was a transhumanist at about age 12 after reading a lot of science fiction. I wasn't able to put a name to it until recently.

I believe that the current cultural and social environment in technologically advanced nations is somewhat hostile to many transhuman concepts and initiatives. The transhuman movement (such as it exists) will be judged by the values put forth by the group, and by the values demonstrated by the actions of the individual members. If I were to take any group seriously, I would expect it to address these fundamental value issues. Otherwise, the meeting is just another form of entertainment and distraction. Which is fine, of course, but I can entertain and distract myself by catching up with the first season of "Lost" on my iPod.
