$50,000,000 for a Tiny Pittsburgh Community: Pat Clark Speaks

TransitionPGH presents part of its 2013 Spring Resilience Speaker Series:

Why a Tiny Pittsburgh Neighborhood Might Get $50,000,000:

Larimer's residents believe business can once again thrive here. Community gardens sprout where gangs reigned. Resident teams clean & prepare 750 vacant properties piece by piece for new businesses & new families. Federal & local grants could accelerate this. A few have seen this community-led transformation up close in board rooms and in streets, and they're going to share their experience with us.

Pat Clark and his consulting firm Jackson/Clark Partners plan the whole process, guiding Larimer from planning to grant-getting to dirt-digging, pulling politicians, nonprofits, and business with it.

25-odd people came and we had a cool QA session/discussion afterwards. I think people learned a lot about this community and how their pull-themselves-by-their-own bootstraps philosophy can be replicated & built elsewhere. :)

I'd LOVE to attend, but my wheelchair balked at the mention of stairs. Come over to the North Side sometime!

If you start a speaker series or a social entrepreneurship meetup in the North Side, I'll help you get speakers. There is an elevator here, luckily...

As a student research partner at Chatham University with the Larimer Green Team, I'm very excited to learn more about Larimer's transformation!
