Hosted by Chris Condello & his team; Oct. 20, 2012, 3-7pm; 915 Rebecca Ave. (approximate address); We'll be out in the open in the garden
Come and eat delicious, locally-farmed, organic food from a recently-built urban farm while meeting the folks who grew it and who live in this low-income yet vibrantly energized neighborhood.
Chris Condello & his neighbors are featured in Transition's international film InTransition 2.0, and he writes prolifically on TransitionPGH.org. Though his name's the most recognizable here, there's many Wilkinsburg residents doing urban gardening & trying to make their neighborhood a nicer place to live in: setting up neighborhood watches & security systems (cameras!), beautifying vacant lots, supporting each other despite the violence & deaths in other more dangerous parts of Wilkinsburg, and more. This is an excellent chance to come around, meet these residents, meet the people involved with this Chris' team's Garden Table Urban Garden, and get a sense of how the neighborhood's Transition-y efforts are shaping up.
We hope to get more tours of Wilkinsburg led by Chris soon--so though this event got posted late, be on the watch for future tours, parties, and more!
Food will be served!
Stuff to bring: You can bring a potluck dish and add to all the food that'll already be there; no obligation.
