Transition Initiatives try to make communities more fun and connected while preparing them for troubled times ahead. Transition Pittsburgh draws people to businesses, nonprofits, & neighborhood initiatives already doing this.

There's so much already here in PGH to see that's just a bus ride or click away: Construction Junction's salvaged building material warehouse, Stormworks' rain barrels, GTECH's vacant land reclamation, GrowPGH's urban farming, the Larimer neighborhood's bid for $30-million-plus in federal and local grants, the Environmental Finance Collaborative’s 4-organization split CFO, etc.

Our aim as a Hub for local Transition Initiatives is to have an initiative in every neighborhood & town across Pittsburgh, each making their participants lives more rewarding and fun... i.e building businesses and initiatives that're trying to relocalize their economy as much as possible--with more local food, local building materials, local energy (solar, wind)--transitioning away from fossil fuel use. We also do the practical work ourselves, if we see gaps we can fill and people who'll help fill them.

There's a global, ~450-initiative-stong network of these initiatives, in at least 34 countries, ~120 in the U.S.

Some notes & guidelines:

1. Like other Meetups, RSVP "No" only if you planned on going and had to cancel. And know that the RSVP count never really accurately displays how many people actually have come since...
