We’re organizing a workshop on best practices in bidding on jobs, followed by a pot-luck supper.

We plan to start by presenting a summary of the main points of a webinar, Closing 80% of the projects you quote, which Josh Wolfe attended. It identified the most important points in deciding to respond to a proposal request. We can work together to figure out how to adapt some of tips for the U.S. market to our local situation.  We can also share ideas about what companies are looking for when seeking freelance translators. Finally, we can share tips for writing winning bids, for example, how to contact companies, what vocabulary to use in drafting the proposal, how to make the final presentation, should we follow-up and how often, etc.

As you can see, everyone will be asked to participate in this workshop, and discussion is essential. We would like to have many different points of view, coming from translators working in various fields. Whether you have written dozens of bids or you have never responded to a call for tenders, this workshop is for you. Let’s work together to improve our careers.

So, we hope you can come on Saturday, March 15, to my place, at 8140 Boyer. We’ll start at 4 p.m. with the workshop on drafting proposals, and then around 6 p.m. will put aside our notes and continue the discussion over dinner, comprised of small dishes you have contributed. (I’ll be providing a vegetarian Irish Colcannon, for St. Patrick’s Day). The evening will continue—until there’s no beer left!

Would you be able to videotape or just voice record this meetup during the 2-hour presentation part? I'm sure people who aren't able to make it would appreciate it.

Tara, I don't feel comfortable being recorded. But if you like, in exchange for dinner, I can do the presentation for you.

If you're wondering what dish you want to bring to share, just bring something you really enjoy yourself, and make sure you have enough for 5-6 other people. Main dishes, salads, desserts, cheese and bread, chips and dip, anything! It's always more fun when nothing's planned. If you bring a store-bought dish, please bring the list of ingredients, in case there are any allergy.

where will you be coming from? East or West of Christophe Colomb; North or South of Jarry? Will you be coming from outside of the city? Knowing this will help me give you directions.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
