The rest of HI-USA may already be done with Sleep For Peace (click here for more details:), but the great state of North Carolina is just getting started, and you're invited to join! We're hosting a campout October 4-6 to gather friends of hostelling for the first ever S'more Peace Camping Event.

So what is this all about? Sleep For Peace was a national HI-USA effort held in conjunction with the UN's International Day of Peace on September 21 to celebrate the peace-building benefits of hostelling. On this day, our hostels across the country held a variety of peace-inspired activities. HI-USA allocated $1 of every overnight stay towards a scholarship fund to help underprivileged youth experience hostelling. In all, more than $4,000 was raised for travel scholarships.

It was an incredibly successful day, but why should we limit celebrating peace to our physical hostels? There's nothing more peaceful than being in the outdoors, meeting new people, and exchanging points of view over fire-roasted marshmallows and melty chocolate!

In the spirit of Sleep For Peace, $1 of your suggested $10 donation for the campout will also be allocated to our scholarship fund. Grab your tent and friends, and join us for an unforgettable weekend.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
