Happy Anniversary! Kenner Travel Meetup Celebrates Five Years

Hi Everyone,

My, how time flies!  I can't believe I started the Kenner Travel Meetup in January 2007, and 5 years later, it is bigger and better than ever.  There would be no Kenner Travel Meetup without all of you, so let's celebrate five years together

Several of you suggested a progressive dinner so let's go "around the world" a little bit return to La Thai Uptown on Prytania for dinner at 7:00 p.m., then stroll over to La Crepe Nanou across the street for French dessert crepes.

If you will be joining us for dessert only, we will probably get to La Crepe Nanou between 9:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Call me at[masked] to see where we are.

For menus, go the each restaurant's website:

La Thai Uptown http://www.lathaiuptown.com/

La Crepe Nanou: http://www.lacrepenanou.com/index.html

I can't wait to see you on Saturday!

Veronica

Time flies with great company. The food at both La Thai and La Crepe Nanou was delicious as always.

There's an area along Magazine St. with a variety of restaurants, but I can't tell you exactly what all the restaurants are. I think Italian, Spanish, Thai, French, etc. But I know the area where you are talking about, which is a great area. The Faubourg/St. John neighborhood, near me, also has some culinary variety: Santa Fe (Mexican), Lola's (Spanish), Cafe Degas (French), Nona Mia's (Italian), Liuzza's (Southern), Fair Grinds (coffee & dessert), and Swirl (wine). I'm open to anything though!

Thinking of a day trip, what about a plantation tour or walk and dinner someplace on the Northshore?

Hi Kimberly, I do know of one neiborhood that has variety of restaurants. The corner of S. Carrollton and Jeanette, which is home to Basil Leaf (Thai), Panchita's (Mexican), Lebanon's Cafe (Lebanese), Cafe Granada (Spanish), and Boucherie (Southern and barbecue). Anybody else know of another neibhorhood like this?

Happy New Year, everyone! A day trip sounds great. Any suggestions for destinations? Historical sites, nature preserves, or some great restaurant in a different corner of the state? I also like the idea of a progressive lunch/dinner.
The first meetup was at Cafe du Monde in Metairie, and we can certainly be nostalgic and find time for beignets! After 2 meetups, we quickly moved to another location since C du Monde is quite loud and not conducive to large group conversation. Other ideas?

Where was the first meeting? Maybe it would be a nice tribute to have it there. I also like the idea of a day trip. Maybe a plantation tour?

I liked Kimberly`s idea but just as a suggestion how about we celebrate by making a one day trip out of town?

I will probably host a multi-group potluck social at the Deutsches Haus from 7 til on Sat 28th. We could have a cake and celebrate there.

Just one idea: Since we are a travel group, perhaps we can go to a neighborhood that has restaurants with cuisines from various parts of the world within walking distance and we can order appetizers at each one and then move to the next. For instance, we could have hors d'oeurves in "France," tapas in "Spain," antipasto in "Italy," zakuskis in "Russia," ...I could go on, but, well, you get the idea. Is there such a neighborhood?

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
