Discover SE Asia

Let's gather to learn about travel in SE Asia. The evening will start with a presentation by Hostelling International USA Volunteer Barbara Johnston, who will discuss her travels in Southeast Asia. Johnston has been to this beautiful region of the world about a dozen times over the 24 years she lived in Japan. She will share travel stories, tips for where to go and how to get there, thoughts on what to pack, accommodation options, food, safety, and of course, beautiful photos. We'll then have breakout/small group discussions for everyone to share their experiences in the region, and/or their travel goals.

Please bring 3-5 of your favorite travel photos from the region if you've been to SE Asia.

We have the community room at the Madison Public Library--Hawthorne Branch reserved for this event. Capacity if for 65 people, so there will be plenty of space! :) It's free!

Wednesday, May 29, 6:30-8:00pm

Very good presentation. Many thanks, Barbara. You made it sound so easy to get out there and explore a very varied and exotic part of the world.

Really interesting -- some people with travel experience in SE Asia, some just with interest in going. But nice photos & good info.

Very good presentation. Barb's travel adventures in South-East Asia were inspiring. Vietnam and Burma still top of my list.

Before I attended this meeting I was not sure if I really wanted to travel to SE Asia. Barb Johnston gave a really great presentation and in discussion with the others I now want to plan a trip to Vietnam. Thanks Barb.

Has anyone worked or volunteered abroad in SE Asia? My work ran over and I wasn't able to attend, but I'm really interested in traveling/working abroad. I'd love to meet with someone one-on-one if you are willing to discuss your experiences!

It gave me information and pictures about areas that I knew little about. I was unfamiliar with most of the countries, except Thailand.

Barbara will cover a bit of Thailand and Vietnam, and there will be time for discussion with other attendees, so hopefully you'll be able to get some ideas for your other destinations.
