I am planning a voluntourism trip for my 30th birthday to Guatemala to build a pop-bottle school with the children there. The trip will include a visit to the Mayan Ruins of Mixco Viejo, a tour of a local women's co-op, and a community hike. For about 6-8 hours a day, we'll be stuffing pop bottles with garbage to make "eco-bricks" which will be used to insulate a new building for the local kids to learn in.
I'm hoping to go in late February of 2014, but the date will depend on when the trip is being offered (they do 2 per month), the schedules of those who want to go, and the time it takes us to raise money for the trip.
The info session will include info on the voluntourism experience, fundraising ideas, and information on ways to save money for the trip.
If this interests you at all, please come to the session tonight at 7pm at NuNa Wellness. The address is 600 Williamson Street, and you are welcome to park in the spots behind the building if the lot is full.
If you're interested in participating but cannot attend the info session this evening, please contact [masked].
