Melvin A. Goodman is senior fellow and director of the national security program at the Center for International Policy. He is also a professor of international security studies and chairman of the international relations department at the National War College. He was division chief and senior analyst at the CIA’s Office of Soviet Affairs from 1976 to 1986 and senior analyst at the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research from 1974 to 1976. Goodman co-authored the book The Wars of Edvard Shevardnadze with Carolyn M. Ekedahl (Penn State Press, 1996) and, most recently, published Failure of Intelligence: The Decline and Fall of the CIA (Rowman and Littlefield, 2008).
