The Ottawa Travel Group June Meetup

Tonight's Meetup will start at 7:10pm sharp. Please try to be there on time.Thank you.

We will start the Meetup with our usual Trivia session.

Tonight's Presentation: .........Galapagos

Presented by member: ..........Rob

Ecuador is one of the most naturally diverse countries in the world. From the isolated Galapagos Islands that greatly influenced Charles Darwin's thinking about evolution, to the Amazonian jungle and the towering Andes mountains, it's like making three trips in one with relatively little travel. You can breathe easily when you step off the plane in Quito, even though it is located at the same elevation as Mount Olympus in Greece, though while walking this culturally rich city, your heart (or lungs) may skip a beat.

See you there

I will be at the meeting place at 6:30 pm for those who wish to come early. Presentations will not begin before 7:10 pm.

Yes, I emailed Rob just in case he hadn't seen that. He was lucky he saw him when he did. :)

Rob did a great job presenting. Great presentation skills. Had lots of knowledge to share. Friendly approach. He made it easy to listen to facts about Ecuador - and even about "birding". Good job!

    Found it very informative.

What a friendly group! I really enjoyed meeting everyone and hearing travel stories before the meetup as well as seeing Rob's presentation. It was fascinating the way he organized it around the three distinct areas. Wish I'd had the guts to ask how much it all cost!
Wish I could go to the Camino one but I have a previous commitment :(

It's a nice Meetup group that offers people the opportunity to travel without travelling...

If any of you would like to contact the presenter and make arrangements for a location and prepare the introduction, please do not hesitate. I can arrange for you to have access to the site and make your announcements. :)

Thanks Rob for a really good, informative presentation. Unfortunately, out of 40 people signed up, and blocking positions, only 23 actually showed up. The remaining 17 were inconsiderate and cancelled at the last minute, or didn't bother to show up, so there was no opportunity for those on the waiting list to make arrangements to attend. That is really unacceptable, and I am going to have to be much more vigilant with the repeat offenders....and you know who you are!

Further to Andrea's comment, I suggest people - whose plans have changed and can no longer make the meeting - go the green box at the top right of the June Meetup page and Change their RSVP from "Yes" to "No". This way people on the Waiting List will have the opportunity to signup.

Great to see all this interest in tonight's presentation! It's pushing me to try improving it, and am still working on it today. It'll be up to the attendees tonight to comment on whether the presentation is good enough to recommend for a second run! See you tonight! Rob

Before we book a 2nd presentation, let's actually see how many of the 40 RSVPs actually attend tonight!

question, do people normally order dinner etc at this event? have never been before. I have been to Ecuador, Quito in particular, so I am really looking forward to this with alot of interest. did not make it to the
Galapagos so interested in that, particularly.

I agree with Elizabeth. There's over fifty people on the waiting list. It would be great if the presenter would be so kind as to hold a second session.

  • Nui

Count me in for the second presentation please. :)

That would be fantastic to have this presentation next week! I'm really interested in learning more about the Galapagos.

  • Colette

I see all the interest in the Glapagos. Would it be possible to hold another Event on this subject before the July Event? Maybe next week? Is this a possibility?

Please try to hold this topic again because many of us would really like to hear about the Galapagos.
