CSS Essentials

Central Library (map)

Selected By:

Our October meetup will cover the essential things to know about Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). If you're not familiar with CSS it's how we make websites pretty. CSS lets us control styles on a web page such as color, spacing, backgrounds, font sizes and position of on the screen.

People who will benefit:
- Anyone wanting to learn more about HTML and CSS
- Someone using Dreamweaver, GoLive or other web page design tools who want a better understanding of the website code that is being created
- Current developers wanting a better understanding of proper web page creation and coding standards (these concepts are helpful for search engine optimization)
- Bloggers wanting to learn how to tweak their site template code
- Coders still using table-based layouts for their web pages

It will be helpful if you are familiar with HTML before the presentation but not necessary.

You guys have probably already covered, but I'd be interested in learning about tools/services for building mailing lists.

John did a fantastic job of covering the high points of some extremely useful information without going into too much detail. I got enough that I now know what to look for and find the details on the web. The FireBug and Web Developer Toolbar overview was golden. I already used what I learned tonight to fix a vertical CSS menu that would not flyout. This problem had me stumped for the past week.

Really solid and helpful presentation from John; I thought he skillfully navigated a surprising amount of topics within the hour-plus timeframe. Even with a pretty good background in CSS, I came away with a number of helpful pieces of information--evidence that this truly was a benefit to all skill levels.

Great mix of basics and higher-end info. Loved the on-the-fly coding.

I enjoyed this session and really appreciate the time that John offered to the group. I realized that I really have a long way on my journey to understanding the behind-the-scenes web. Thank you!
