Speaker: Chad Thomas, Coastal Fisheries Supervisor (NCWRC)
Topic: The expanding role of genetics in coastal North Carolina fisheries management.
Chad Thomas has been employed by NCWRC for the last 19 years. He oversees fisheries research and management programs in coastal North Carolina with emphasis on migratory species (striped bass, American shad, and herring) and resident sportfish (largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish).
His talk will include an overview of anadromous fisheries management in coastal NC, evaluation of current stocking practices utilizing ground-breaking genetic marking techniques, and discussion of connectivity with the NCWRC and the Division of Marine Fisheries’ species management plans.
