Join us as we help Barack Obama win in South Carolina!

This is the day of the primary, we will be able to actually encourage people to go out to vote and assist people that need help getting out to vote. You will also want to be there to celebrate the victory. This is a one day trip, we will drive down and return in the same day- our destination cities will be determined by the campaign, we may split into groups, each group may be assigned to a different city. Join us as we caravan to South Carolina and take action to make change.
We will be carpooling so anyone that is willing to drive and can carry one or more passengers or anyone that needs a ride , please let us know by contacting

Our destination on Saturday morning is : 466 West Cheves, Florence SC 29501
Organizer: Ryan Cooper [masked]

Although this is a one day trip some people are planning to go down the night before. If you would like to go down on Friday but need a place to stay , please let us know, if your willing to rough it a little the Obama campaign has offered to help us find a place to lay our heads.

If you have yet to participate in an Obama event or if you are already active in your support for the campaign, Barack needs your help. This is your chance to make a real impact.

As the democratic party continues to stress "the power of personal contact is overwhelmingly more effective than anything else. It engages voters, it builds relationships, and it changes elections"

Remember in the words of Barack Obama , "Ordinary people, when they work together can do extraordinary things."

What does it mean to participate in a canvass?

Think of a canvass as a neighborhood walk. Canvasses happen when a group of
people get together and go door to door to homes and apartments in a selected
neighborhood to spread the message about Barack Obama.

Movements are created one person, one house at a time. One or two individuals can canvass an entire neighborhood and build real support for our campaign to change America.

Your goal in the canvass is to make personal connections with other people who might not know as much about Barack Obama.

So we're probably staying Saturday Night in SC. Anybody know of any official or unofficial place to watch the results come in? Let us know!

Where in South Carolina are we canvassing? Anywhere near Colombia by chance? I was just wondering because I might be driving after work on Friday if I go...

Is anybody leaving from Chapel Hill instead of Raleigh? I am a maybe, and I maybe could drive others ... contact [masked] for more info.

Who attended?

  • 50 attendees
    •  Inspiring, exhilirating, and I'm ready for more.
    •  I said 7 people attended as these are people I actually saw at Wukela campaign headquarters in Florence SC or the rally at the Convention Center in Columbus SC but there could have been more. I enjoyed being a part of this event; however, it was sad that our group seemed so fragmented. Although there were those who said they'd be leaving at different times, there was no effort to make contact from the organizers or coordinators. It seemed everyone was doing their thing. I was glad to see others of the group who wandered into the headquarters or at the rally, otherwise I might not have seen anyone from the group at all. That was disappointing. I thought that the whole point of giving information for the volunteer effort was not only for the SC organizer but for our group coordinators to make contact or let everyone know what was happening. Had I not overheard someone talk about the rally, I wouldn't have known about it. Tickets needed to be purchased as well and no one knew.
    •  Victory! Made me feel like I really helped in the win.

I was happily surprised to see the number of people that showed up soooo early on Saturday and that everyone was eager all day to see Obama win the state.

The meetup would have been better if once at the destination, there was a brief meeting of the group (15 minutes) before we stepped off into canvasing so that those who drove from other destinations could be introduced to the group. It seemed like everybody was too busy to meet and greet, even though the official start time was 9:30 and the group arrived about 8:30, or at the very least, had that meet and greet time at the end of the 1st shift at 12:30.
    •  Fantastic, inspiring, still feeling fired up!
    •  Couldn't go with the TFO group but had a good time with the folks in Horry County, SC. A HUGE win for Obama!
    •  I had a great time! It was my first time doing anything for a national campaign and I'll do it again in a heartbeat? Anyone for on to Tennessee!?!
    •  This was hard, but rewarding work. I enjoyed myself and the people that I canvassed with.
    •  The map system was difficult to execute properly, and the format was also hard to understand.
