Spring Potluck Picnic!

Come join us at Bond Park for a great afternoon of food, fun and park activities including boat rentals, walking trails, and greenways. Fred G. Bond Metro Park, at 310 acres, is one of the largest municipal parks in Wake County. Like an oasis in the midst of the city, the park design preserves the environment and offers opportunities for many types of recreation.
Please bring a vegan picnic-friendly dish (w/serving utensil) to share and reusable plates & silverware for your group. A grill is available – if you think you might like to use it, please comment below and we can coordinate charcoal & barbeque implements.
We will eat at noon and then have the rest of the afternoon to socialize and make use of Bond Park’s ample facilities. If you would like to walk off some of that lunch, there is a great 2 mile wooded trail that goes around Bond Lake. Highly recommended, so bring comfortable shoes! Like the water? There are paddle boats, sailboats, kayaks, canoes and rowboats available to rent by the half or full hour. If you just want to hang out in the shade at the picnic shelter, consider bringing some playing cards or other games. This event is very kid & dog friendly!

Cost will be $1/person (collected at the event) to offset the $80 picnic shelter rental. Anita has generously paid for the shelter so please remember to bring a buck or two help with the cost.
Hope to see you there!

To clarify, we are at the Buehler Shelter across from the boat shelter, not at the screened shelter.

Howdy everyone, I'm going to bring a hot pot for hot water in case there is electricity in the picnic shelter. I will bring some herbal tea and whatnot. So if you are already cold, like me :), bring ur mug and fave hot water drink.

I'll be there by noon at the latest.

I'll definitely be there, but a little late, I have to take Susan to the airport.

It looks like any rain will hold off until late this afternoon so while we may not see much sun, I think we will stay dry. Hope to see you all there!

Tomorrow through Tuesday, gloom and rain are expected in the forecast. Is everyone still game?

    May 4, 2013

    • Jody H.

Still game, hope the weather cooperates

Right now there is a chance of showers tomorrow afternoon, with much worse weather for Sunday night & Monday. The picnic shelter rental is non-refundable, so this event is rain or shine and won't be cancelled. Thanks!

Hi Anita, I can bring a large cooler.

    May 3, 2013

    • Anita L.

      That's great, thanks Jody!

      May 3, 2013

  • Anita L.

It looks like we are going to have a really great turn out for the picnic! I look forward to seeing everyone!

    Some comments/reminders:
    1) Please remember to bring a serving utensil for your dish, as well as plates/silverware for your party.
    2) Please bring a list of ingredients in your dish so we can accommodate people with allergies.
    3) The picnic shelter is near the boat house, and there is quite a bit of parking available. If for some reason you can't find a spot near the boat house, you can park at Field 4 and walk to the shelter from there (it's quite close).
    4) There is no alcohol allowed at the park.

Lastly, I will bring some bags of ice and gallon jugs of spring water. Could someone please bring a large cooler that could hold the ice?

Thanks and see you all on Sunday!

    • Anita L.

Forgot one: Please bring $1-2 each to offset the cost of the shelter rental. Thanks!!

I love rain, I hope it pours. Maybe we’ll get some thunder and lightning too. Wouldn’t that be great!!!

Right now the weather forecast calls for a chance of rain late in the day into the evening. The event is rain or shine though as we have a very large covered picnic shelter reserved. Hopefully the rain will hold off, but I'll be there either way. :-)

I might be more of a maybe because of church. Are we eating at 11 or socializing and then eating more around 12-12:30?

    April 29, 2013

    • Anita L.

We are eating around noon, to allow time for everyone to get there and get set up. I hope you can attend!
