Wicked at DPAC - Durham

Member Helene is organizing a group to go see Wicked in May. This event will sell out quickly, so you must commit by this Tuesday to get seating with the group. She will contact you to set up payment via paypal. There will be an optional dinner set up specifically for those going to the show, but please note all attending will not be veg*n. This event is crossposted with the Raleigh Fun & Games meetup.

~ Stephanie

from Helene:

Wicked is coming to DPAC in May. If you haven't seen the show it is amazing and if you have seen it then you know you want to see it again (like me). If we can get 20 people to go we can get 10% off the ticket price for a Sunday evening or a Monday - Thursday show. I was thinking May 6th might be a good date and I know we can get tickets at the group rate but we have to act quickly or it will sell out. The price is $72 for rear orchestra seats if we get 20 people if not then the price is $80. Payment can be made via paypal and obviously once your ticket is purchased no refunds will be given so it will be up to you to find someone else to go if you can't make it. We can meet up for dinner prior or just meet at the theater. Carpooling would be great for those of us that live in the Raleigh area. :) cross posted with Raleigh fun and games group. Will give it a few days to reach 20 then pull trigger to get tickets and set up PayPal to collect funds.

Wicked was good; the company at dinner and the theater was so nice! Thanks so much to Lenie; it was a pleasure meeting you all, and thanks so much for organizing.

Not sure what happened but I got pretty sick about half way through the play. Still not quite right today, 2 days later; sipping on soup.

Awesome. Great job Helene. The show was incredible.

I just called too. They said no problem being seated and it's very quiet. Getting there at 4 like we said. See you then.

  • Tess

@Lenie: just called and saw that 1)we don't have a reservation and 2)cant make one for less than 8 people; what time are you planning on meeting there? Please let me know asap so I can tell my friends. Thanx

If I don't see you at dinner and I have your ticket please meet in front of theater at 6pm. My cell is 6315617720. Text me if you can't find me. Thx.

Tess, we can have dinner together. I have no issues eating with people who are omni. As long as there is respect I'm good. Nobody gets to try to force their diet on me and I don't do the same in return. If someone wants to know more and shows an interest I'm more than happy to share my 27 years of knowledge with them. I've gone through many transitions to get to where I am now. :) looking forward to Sunday!

NO need for apologies! I just meant it'd hijack the page. Plus I'd probably have more to say than these comment boxes allow! : ) I think discussions, opinions etc are great!

Steph: sorry, didnt mean to do so. Reply removed.

Tess - your comment could spark a very interesting philosophical debate re whether we have to respect the choices of others when they make unethical actions. But of course the comments here are not the place for that. Perhaps another time! I'm also not a believer, but this is also not the place for that convo. : ) I hope you guys have a great dinner and enjoy the play!

Lenie: there are 3 of us too for dinner; should I make a seperate reservation? Again, I don't want to offend anyone and completely understand if that is best.

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

I agree! Tess we will see you on Sunday at 4. I'll make a reservation. Anyone else joining us please let me know. Thanks.

PS - someone checked that Geer St is open Sundays, right? I didn't check when I suggested it.

Ok, totally my bad. I was on my phone and didn't reread the whole event and forgot about the cross-posting. But this is not a dinner event and was advertised as crossposted with another event, so people can eat whatever they want. And you can choose whether ot not to eat with the group. All nonvegetarians are welcome to our dinner meetups, but in those cases they must eat veg. That is not the case in this event.

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

Tess, the three of us will meet the four of you (and anyone else interested) at 4 at Geer. :)

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

It was advertised as mixed. I'd love it if they did but I didn't require it on the Raleigh fun and games side. Just two and one might but has limited gluten free options.

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

Geer lol auto correct I guess that was for stephanie.

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

4pm at beer street! Please comment if you will be attending so I can see about a reservation. Thanks! I will be 3 people. Please understand this is a mixed event with omni people.

I will verify re: walking distance to the theater, but on my gps that looks like it may be do-able!

    May 3, 2012

  • Helene

Geer street sounds good to me! Meet there at 4? Is it walking distance to theater?

Just a tip - park in the garage above DPAC at Corcoran and Main.

I previously suggested the Cuban Revolution and agree it's a good choice with variety for vegan/vegetarian palates. The Geer St Garden menu also looks really good - different; some different vegan/veg choices as well. I would do either one but am interested in trying the Geer St Garden. Hours are from 12n.

Don't discount Mellow Mushroom. They have awesome build your own salads. A lot of the small local places downtown are closed Sunday. Check out the menu for Geer St Garden. Haven't looked at it but someone (not veg) said it was friendly.

    May 2, 2012

  • Jody H.

Bummer, How about Cuban Revolution. They are open on Sunday's and have a number of veg items including a wide selection of rice and beans which should be gluten free. They are near the Lucky Strike tower.

    May 2, 2012

  • Tess

I am not unwilling to try another place; just not sure of where; also to keep in mind that parking is going to be rough after 4pm which is why I was trying to make do with something inside the tobacco area right by the theater. All I can do is tell you the restaurants that are in walking vicinity - there is also Tobacco Road if you want to explore that menu. Just check very carefully, the ones I named I know are open on Sundays but several others are closed on sundays.

    May 2, 2012

  • Helene

They are closed on Sunday Jody.

    May 2, 2012

  • Jody H.

    I suggested Beyu!

    May 2, 2012

  • Helene

Thanks for the heads up Tess. Tyler's doesn't look very vegan or gluten free friendly so we will have to pass, sorry. We will set a time to meet at theater. Jody, do you have another suggestion? :)

    May 2, 2012

  • Tess

ok, my 3 friends have voted on Tylers; we are planning on going around 330-4pm because there is not only DPAC but a Bulls game that day so parking will be notorious if we wait too long. Tylers has a nice outdoor seating and bar area, theres also a pretty brook that runs along the outside dining so we are just gonna go sit relax and take our time ordering, it will be nice if its a pretty day. They have veggie burgers and vegetarian options.

***HEY GUYS, THE BEYU CAFFE SAYS THEY ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS***; we will need a plan B; see my suggestions above or I'm open to something else.

    May 2, 2012

  • Tess

I dont mind trying the Beyu cafe.

    May 2, 2012

  • Jacobby J.

Hi Helene. I'd like to get my ticket from you at the resturant we meet at before hand. I third the Beyu suggestion since the mixed Grill Napoleons look so healthy and apetizing. That resturant offers a lot of greens also < always a +.

    May 1, 2012

  • Will B.

I haven't been to Beyu but it looks interesting. Here is the menu:

    http://beyucaffe.com/menu/cafe/

I would get either the Thai Sauteed Veggies or the Vegan Mixed Grill Napoleons.

    1 · May 1, 2012

  • Jody H.

There is a great restaurant called Beyu on Main St downtown that has several vegan and veg options, and mst of them should be gluten free as well.

    1 · May 1, 2012

  • Tess

There is a new italian restaurant in the tobacco square; that would likely have vegetarian options; haven't been there yet but have heard good things; the cuban revolution and Tylers both have vegetarian options and have good food, reasonable prices. I have a few friends that are also going in a different group and would like to join us for dinner if that's ok (3 people). I don't know if I can make a seperate trip so let's plan on meeting outside the theater at a certain time for tix pickup.

Suggestions for dinner in Durham before the show that is Vegan, gluten free, and non veg friendly please. And please let me know if you want to have dinner prior to the show. Jacobby and Tess we have to meet up prior so you can get your tickets! Thanks!

    May 1, 2012

  • Helene

Jacobby and Tess I got both of you tickets. Thanks for sending payment. :)

I'd love to attend a meet up dinner before the show also. Count me in. @Lenie or Helene, I hope you saw the paypay email from my [masked] account. Sorry if that created confusion. Thanks for organizing this event.
