Christmas in the Country

If you’re too far from family to spend Christmas with them, don’t sit at home alone on Christmas day. Come join us for a vegan dinner out in the country surrounded by friends and nature. Spend a couple of hours or all day, a half mile back in the woods, in a rustic but warm and comfortable lodge type house with an open floor plan good for socializing, and lots of large windows for observing the natural setting. Be prepared for something a little unusual, my wife and I built the house with our own hands. It’s far from being finished, but it’s a great place to hold a casual event and can easily accommodate a group of 25 or more for dinner and games.

Come as early as you like. Dress comfortably, Jeans, sweat suit or pajamas. Dinner will be ready to serve at 12:00, but we’ll eat whenever we feel like it. I will prepare several simple traditional vegetables such as, Black-eyed peas or pinto beans, corn, lima beans, potato salad. I may even try making a sweet potato or broccoli casserole. Any dish or desserts and /or beverage will be welcome additions.

I’m going to invite the Triangle Vegetarian & Vegan Meetup group, the Triangle Vegan Social Club, The Greensboro Vegan Meetup Group and the Very Vegetarian Society of Winston-Salem, to post this event, so you may get to meet some new veg friends.

I was planning to bring some rice item but have seen few comments of people bringing the same. So I'll bring Indian "Gobi Paratha" made of Cabbage, chilli, Chick Pea flour, Wheat Flour ; in a Corn Oil. So as far as i understand, it would be Vegan all way. I hope to make it a little spicy so as give you all a real taste of Indian food.

      December 25, 2012

I enjoyed the food but i did not find it overly spicy!

Would this be a good meetup for a newbie? I've been to just one meetup before, but that was a while ago.

    December 21, 2012

    • Dennis R.

This will be a great meetup for newbies. There will be a few people from Greensboro and Winston, one from Boone and one from Charlotte, lots of newbies.

Thanks Dennis and Stacy! I look forward to meeting everyone. I haven't received directions yet. I think you said you'd be emailing them.

Since everyone else is claiming what they are bringing. I would like to bring raw mixed winter greens ie: mustard, kale and so on. With an oil and vinegar dressing that will be made by my talented hand. :)

    December 20, 2012

  • Helen

I will be bringing a dessert - and I'm going to try to make it gluten-free, too.

    December 19, 2012

    • Dennis R.

I think I can accommodate 35, we have 31 RSVPs now. I’ll have some paper plates and plastic ware just in case.

OMG Dennis....you are such a Social Host!!!!! BTW, did you see my note to you that the car did seem to be suffering from a lack of power steering fluid? lol

I am planning to make a wild rice dressing that's gluten-free & vegan (cuz that's how I eat), and a gluten-free & vegan gravy to go with it. Can others post what they are planning to make? And please label your ingredients. Are there other dietary restrictions beyond vegetarian that we should be aware of? Thanks!

    December 19, 2012

    • Karen M

Correction: I mean "beyond vegan" because I see that Dennis has specified this as a vegan dinner. (Thanks, Dennis!)
