Heads Up! - "From Activist to Terrorist" talk

  • Jan 23, 2013 · 7:00 PM

As always, a heads up is info about an event but not an official meetup. Please see the Facebook event for updated info and direct your questions there. Thanks!

from Facebook:

As corporations and profiteers become more audacious in their assault upon the natural environment and our non-human co-habitants, more and more people are standing up in the defense of the voiceless. Rather than heed the groundswell of grassroots resistance, the powerful have turned to the law and its enforcers to silence those that would resist the growth of the death economies. The result has been a linguistic transformation: from activist to terrorist

Come join us as we welcome Will Potter and Jake Con
roy to Chapel Hill Wednesday, January 23, 2013 to talk about the implications triggered by this transformation. Will Potter, award winning journalist and author of “Green is the New Red,” will discuss how eco-terrorism has been manufactured by corporate America and how all activists are at risk. Jake Conroy, a long-time animal rights activist, will discuss his own personal experience of being labeled terrorist for his involvement in America’s most successful animal rights campaign to date – Stop Huntington Animal Cruelty.

Internationalist Books & Community Center will be tabling the event and offering Will Potter's book, Green Is The New Red, a And Insider's Account of A Social Movement Under Siege.

There is a home basketball game that night at 9pm. Though this event starts two hours earlier at 7pm, you'll want to leave early if you want to find parking. Howell Hall is located directly behind the Morehead Planetarium.

Very informative and I'm glad I attended as I had no idea how far reaching the US Government actually is! Bought Will Potter's book and can't wait to start reading it!
