New Meetup: Vegan kitchen - a new take on the potluck, July 5

Sent on: Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:47 AM
Announcing a new Meetup for Vegetarian & Vegan Meetup of Chapel Hill, Durham & Raleigh!

What: Vegan kitchen - a new take on the potluck

When: July 5, 2008 (time TBD based on meal planning, probably 2-4PM)

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Instead of simply bringing a dish to a potluck, I wanted to invite everyone to my place to first cook dinner and then eat. It can get a little crowded in the kitchen, but that's half the fun - the other half is the food! Everyone brings their recipe and any ingredients they need - or contact me if they need just a little of something I might have - like a pinch of salt or sugar.

Everyone gets to share cooking secrets and tips, maybe learn some new recipes and just share the joy of cooking. A forum discussion on the message board is started before each event for everyone to suggest recipes and comment, coordinate the recipes and who is bringing what, with the intent of having a sit down family style dinner with 1-2 salads, 1-2 appetizers, 2-3 main courses, 1-2 desserts.

Some discussion participation is absolutely required for meal planning if you are attending. We encourage students (who might not have kitchens, money for eating out, or cooking experience) to join in and learn about cooking vegan too!

Show up at 2-4pm to start cooking. We might vary that once we decide on recipes - we eat when everything is ready! Let's do a "red, white and vegan" theme to the first meal in honor of Independence Day! I'll leave the theme up to your own interpretation and let's see what we come up with! Prize for most creative interpretation! Registration closes July 1 to finalize plans. Max of 10 participants for this first event to see how it goes - maybe more next time. If it is closed and you desperately want to come, message me, otherwise join in next time!
