Change in Organizer for Veg Meetup Group!

Dear Veg Meetup Group Members,

I have decided to step down as organizer of this group. Stephanie has agreed to take over. She has been very active in organizing numerous events and posting Heads Ups about additional events. I feel confident in passing along leadership of the group to such a committed, dedicated person.

I have really valued the last four years that I?ve spent as the first organizer of this group (the group existed before I became organizer, but in Fall 2004, Meetup announced that all groups needed organizers or they would be closed, so that?s when I stepped up; thanks to Dan C. and Julia for their encouragement). I am amazed at how much growth this group has experienced. In 2004, I think we had somewhere around 150 members; now we have 437 members (although not all go to all events at once!)!! We went from having exactly 1 event per month (the second Thursday restaurant outings) to 2 guaranteed events with Sue?s potlucks, and now numerous monthly events under Stephanie?s leadership!

I am stepping down in part because 4+ years is a long time and I have been gradually shifting my volunteer focus to other topics. When I was new to this area in August 2004, I found that meeting up with other vegetarians in this strange world of barbecue and pulled pork was invaluable. I have since formed a comfortable network of vegetarian friends and the meetup group is no longer such an essential lifeline for me. I also want to try to devote a bit more time to my other meetup group: a Russian language group, which I keep neglecting.

Stephanie has suggested that I stay on as an assistant organizer so I can still organize periodic events. I haven?t yet decided whether to do that. I might do that or take a break and then maybe get back into organizing again in several months.

I wish all of you the best in your vegetarian and vegan (and transitioning) journeys.

(soon-to-be-former Organizer)
