Self Transcendance Triathlon
What:
Once again our club Goal Race for the 2010 season. This friendly, welcoming race offers great encouragement and support for first-time triathletes and the interesting and beautiful course also provides continuing challenges for repeat competitors.
Distances:
Triathlon: 1.5km Swim, 40km Cycle and 10km Run
Duathlon: 5km Run, 40km Cycle, 10km Run
Start:
6:00-6:45 am Check in and body marking
7:00am Swim start in 4 heats - fastest swimmers first
Package pick-up:
Race packet pick-up is at the race site, Hamsterly Beach, Brookleigh Road, at the north end of Elk Lake. Time: Friday, July 30 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, July 31 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. NO RACE packets will be given out the day of race.
Pre-race Meeting:
There will be Pre-race Meetings for all athletes on Saturday, July 31 at the race site at Hamsterly Beach. Everyone is encouraged to attend these meetings, especially first time triathletes. Our meetings are not long, focus on safety and give competitors chances to ask questions.
Optional Bike Check:
Oak Bay Bicycle will be on site Saturday, July 31 and race day morning to offer optional bike check. However, it is emphasized that competitors are responsible for the road worthiness and correct operation of their bicycle.

Triathlon individual: $65 until May 14 | $85 until July 19 | $105 after
Duathlon individual: $65 until May 14 | $85 until July 19 | $105 after
Relay Teams: $150 until May 14 | $175 until July 19 | $190 after
Non TriBC Members: add $15

Karen CurtinIt was an oddly chilly morning considering what the weather has been like, and a strange orange sun hovered low in the sky. After a bit of wrestling in the water, goggles knocked askew and a cramped leg, the rest of the race went pretty smoothly. Except for when I almost crashed my bike trying to fish a Clff bar out of my tri suit. Johan rocked it with a very good time...which he can tell you himself. My performance was, well...unremar
kable but consistent nonetheless. A minute faster than last year -very close to the same time on the bike and swim but faster on the run. My initial disappointment has been subdued by my motto: "Suck it up buttercup."
It's a good race. Maybe more of the group will make it out next year??? Keep on tri-ing!

Once again my favorite race of the season: warm lake, smooth and speedy roads and a super run on the soft and shady trail around the lake.
I took 5 min off last years swim time, lost 2 on the ride but finished with a very solid run: 46 min compared to 53 last year! So PB'd by 10 minutes overall for a finish time of 2:33 hrs.
Great to see so many familiar faces both competing and cheering on the sidelines. Best post-race pancakes and massage EVER, great closing party in Victoria! Happy :-)
