October Geek Movie - Gravity

For the October Friday Night Geek movie night we will be seeing Gravity. It is getting good reviews, so let's give it a try.  The movie stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris.

We are seeing the 7:00PM show (35mm - NON-3D) at Brier Creek Cinemas and we will meet out front NO LATER THAN 15 mins before show time so we can go in and get seats together at that time (I will have my meetup sign).

You may want to consider buying your ticket ahead of time, although we are not seeing this on opening day (it opened on Oct 4th.)

Afterward the movie we will head over to the Red Robin for some good after movie eats and conversation.

Synopsis:

GRAVITY, directed by Oscar (R) nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar (R) winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone.

2 Strike Attendance Policy
Since many of our events fill up and have waiting lists, we enforce a “Two Strike” attendance policy. If you are a “No Show” or a “Late Drop” (dropping less than 6 hours before an event) it will count as a strike. After two strikes you are subject to removal from the group. So please only sign up for events that you know you can attend and update your RSVPs in a timely fashion if your plans change.

The movie was quite unique (which seems to be rare out of Hollywood these days) and kept me on the edge of my seat. I would definitely recommend it to others. And the people attending were awesome as always. Thanks for coming out everyone.

Well.... left the office feeling like the plague is trying to hit. Figured spreading a cough through the theater would not be good for all involved... so I spent an hour resting before having dinner. Sorry to miss it.

I'm going to TRY to get there. The problem with weekday movies: the "get out of the office late" card, which gets played a lot in geeky places. "We have a meeting at 5:30 you must attend" <sigh> Assuming I get out on time, I'll be there.

Don't feel too bad, I used to work for a firm that bragged to potential hires that they worked a 4 day at 9 hours, plus 5 on Friday to give everybody a head start on the weekend. After joining them you found out that in the real world, most big deadlines are Friday EoB, so I ended up working late most Fridays anyway ... and they got the extra hour the other days!

Been there, done that. Not anymore. I learned some time ago that one will get stood upon if you don't stand up. So I leave when I need to. I work so I can live my life, not live my life to work.

I wonder if I should wear my "real" geek t shirt?

I read an interview with the NASA guy in charge of the team that trains astronauts (in that huge swimming pool in Huntsville), on how to handle themselves in zero-gee, and he was astonished at the realism and details.

I have to admit, I was so impressed that I went to see it at the IMAX-3D. All I can say, is WOW! It was really good!
I liked it enough that I'm still going to come see it again, to see details I missed the first time.

I will try to make it, didn't want to RSVP just in case I can't, work a pretty unpredictable schedule so not sure if I'll be off in time
