Bonus $5.00 Tuesday Geek Movie - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

As the BIG December Geek Movie we are going to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.  But since this is going to be abolutely INSANE to see on opening night, we are going to see it the Tuesday after opening night for $5.00.

We will be seeing the 6:40PM (non-3D) show at the Park West 14 - Stone Theater.  We will plan to meet in the lobby NO LATER THAN 6:15PM and plan to go in and get our seats (since as we have seen these shows can completely fill up for popular movies).  before the movie so we can go in at that time to get seats. I will have my meetup sign.

Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), his mighty band of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), and wise wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) embark on a crusade to reclaim Erebor from the vicious dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) in this sweeping fantasy adventure that picks up where the events of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey left off. Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) once again directs from a screenplay by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Guillermo del Toro.

Official Trailer:

As with all geek events, we request a $1 donation to cover meetup fees, snacks and prizes for future events.

2 Strike Attendance Policy
Since many of our events fill up and have waiting lists, we enforce a “Two Strike” attendance policy. If you are a “No Show” or a “Late Drop” (dropping less than 6 hours before an event) it will count as a strike. After two strikes you are subject to removal from the group. So please only sign up for events that you know you can attend and update your RSVPs in a timely fashion if your plans change.

Double checked with the theater today and we are indeed on for a 2D showing of The Hobbit at 6:40 on Tuesday. See everyone at 6:15! :)

I contacted Stone Theaters today since they still have not posted times online for their movies on Tuesday (apparently trying to secure Anchorman 2 is throwing off all of their scheduling.) But they will be showing the Hobbit. They were able to tell me that they have a 6:40PM showing on the Hobbit in 2D on Monday and they should have a corresponding show on Tuesday at that time as well (give or take 5 or 10 minutes). So I am planning for a 6:40 time frame and having us meet no later than 6:15PM (since popular shows will fill up on Tuesdays). If you are going to be late, (since this time is a little earlier than normal) let us know and we will attempt to save you a seat. I will double check the time again on Monday, but they seemed pretty sure we would be safe scheduling the event for a 6:40PM time frame.

Still waiting for Stone Theater to post what movies they will be showing next Tuesday. Currently the Carmike across the street from Stone in Cary is not listed as showing the Hobbit, but the Carmike in Durham (off[masked] behind Super Target) is showing it on Tuesday (also $5). So I will keep watching for Stone to update their movie schedule for Tuesday and when they do I will let you know the final location where we will be seeing The Hobbit.

I think this might be the ultimate Geek movie (comes out in January). "Her" is a about a man who falls in love with the operating system. Trailer here:

I am pretty sure it will be a limited release movie so I will keep an eye out for it.

Funnily enough, I _am_ watching it on opening night, and I have a ticket for the midnight session. And I got a SuperTix too, just for the lulz. Just goes to show how much I miss the big city and the big city crowds. :-P (Yes, I really am a city kid!)

(You know that definitely means that I'm watching the movie by myself, since my wife hates crowds. As a bonus, I get to watch it in 3D! (3D movies make my wife motion-sick, which actually was the real reason why I switched out my Doctor Who session.))

Random Geeky movie news. In addition to adding Ben Affleck as Batman to the next Superman movie, they are apparently also adding Wonder Woman.

The Park West website shows that Hobbit2 will be playing in IMAX and IMAX-3D (and I assume also, no-MAX-2D), which is no surprise.

I'm enough of a LotR geek that I'll vote to pay the extra IMAX fee and the glasses rental fee above the $5 Tue special.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
