Bonus $7.00 Tuesday Geek Movie - RoboCop

For our next $7.00 bonus geek movie of 2014 (this one is $7.00 since it is PDX/IMAX format.), let's see the remake of the 1987 classic that starred Peter Weller,  Robocop.  Now the fact this is being released in February doesn't bode well for the movie being a contender for a Best Picture Oscar nod, but I will pay $7.00 to see a movie that includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton .  Other actors include:  Joel Kinnaman (as RoboCop) and Abbie Cornish.

We will be seeing the 7:20 show at the Park West 14 - Stone Theater.  We will plan to meet in the lobby 15 minutes before show time to go into the theater together to get seats.   I will have my meetup sign.  The Park West 14 shows movies for $5.00 all day on Tuesdays and offers a $5.00 popcorn and drink special as well.  For PDX (IMAX) they add $2.00 to the price and that is the only format showing in the 7:00ish time frame.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

As with all geek events, we request a $1 donation to cover meetup fees, snacks and prizes for future events.

Since many of our events fill up and have waiting lists, we enforce a “Two Strike” attendance policy. If you are a “No Show” or a “Late Drop” (dropping less than 6 hours before an event) it will count as a strike. After two strikes you are subject to removal from the group. So please only sign up for events that you know you can attend and update your RSVPs in a timely fashion if your plans change.

It was an interesting remake of the original. Samuel L. was awesome as always. :) And the answer to what is better than a "hero" is a SUPER hero..... :P Thanks for coming out everyone.

Hi everyone. So the 7:20 showing of RoboCop we are seeing on Tuesday is in PDX format (Stone's version of IMAX) which will make the show a $7.00 movie instead of a $5.00 movie. (The other $5 showings are too early or too late for most people to attend.) So hopefully the extra $2 is OK, since the concession special for popcorn and drink is still $5.00! We will meet in the lobby no later than 7:05 and go in at that time to get seats. I will have my meetup sign and see everyone there!

Worth it to see Sam Jackson as an over-the-top villain.

Any interested in a Tuesday I, Frankenstein showing? I have a weakness for the Underworld films; this is by the same guy.

When Stone Theaters opened, I was really hoping Park Place would turn into a $2 theater, as IMO its getting kind of worn-looking. But until Stone can nab more opening weekend releases, I guess there's no incentive for Park Place to change.
