So you might have heard of mead in Renaissance era stories and fairs, but have you ever tasted it? Do you know what mead is made of?
Mead is a wine that is made of fermented honey instead of fermented grape juice. It is quite tasty and comes in a range of sweetness and flavors. Even if you aren't a traditional wine drinker, you may really like mead.
So let's go out to Starrlight Mead in Pittsboro and take an educational tour of the mead making process and then do a tasting! (I was impressed at the things I learned from the owner while on the tour and they support local beekeepers by using local NC honey in their wine!)
The tasting is $5.00 (the tour is free) and you get to keep the glass. When I went to a recent tasting I got to try 8 different meads and it really was fascinating to experience the wide range of flavors.
We will plan to go on the 3:00 tour, so please be there by 2:45 and you can take a look around their medieval-inspired tasting room.
