Lunch at Eastern Market

Please read this carefully!

Meet time is still 11am sharp.  I have been watching the weather and will cancel this event if necessary.  At this time, this event is still on for Saturday with some changes!  Because of the weather and River Days Festival happening now at the riverfront, we will no longer meet at Rivard Plaza and take the Dequindre Cut to Eastern Market.  We will meet in Eastern Market at the restaurant of your choice at 11am for lunch, then you're free to walk around the market as you please. There is no longer a meet up time to end this event since you can leave at any time.

Last time, we all went to Vivio's and overwhelmed the place.  They did a fantastic job fitting us all in, but I'm hoping we don't get into that same problem.  Can everyone list the restaurant they would choose for lunch?   Perhaps we can get at least two smaller groups heading to two different restaurants.  Just in case,  I did make a reservation at Roma Cafe for 15 people, no separate checks.  I also called Vivio's, they do not take reservations but said if we inform them 1/2 hour before we arrive, they'll try to get us in.  If I can get a rough estimate how many want to go to Vivio's, I will arrive 1/2 hr early to give them our name.

I put the link up for most of the restaurants below.  Again, please let us know which restaurant you choose for lunch so we can organize our groups together.

**If bad weather is expected, I may cancel and reschedule later, please check back on here often**

Since the majority picked Vivio's, we are meeting there at 11am for lunch. I will get there ahead of time to put our reservation in, hoping by the time people get there at 11, a table(s) will be ready.

Anyone in the Bloomfield Hills area interested in carpooling?

    • Pennie

I told Ron I would carpool with him so maybe all three of us could go together. You could leave your car at my house in Sylvan Lake.

For the people that have never been to Eastern Market before, You may have to circle a few times or park a few blocks away, but there should be space somewhere......

Hi Donna, just wanted to let you know that SalaThai has very good food. Booths that fit 6 to 8 people and very quick service. Have fun!

Weather on Saturday looks fine: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail2/USMI0229
I suggest meeting at Roma's because Vivio's is smaller and likely to be packed. I think you're taking a chance at Vivio's having room, but if nobody else wants to go to Roma's, Vivio's it is. Y'all should remember to bring a large lightweight but sturdy shopping bag for veggies and also small bills to pay the vendors. I love Eastern Market.

Elizabeth, we can always have two different groups going to two different restaurants, all they have to do is mention it, but so far almost all seem to be going to Vivio's. I still have my reservation at Roma, but if no one is going to say they want to go there than I will cancel it. I did contact Vivio's a couple of days ago, they know we're coming yet do not take a reservation. Also, they open up the upstairs on Saturdays. I will, as they recommended I do, go there earlier to put our name on the waitlist.

    Vivo's sounds good for me.

I'm bringing my mountain bike if anyone wants to do some casual riding around the city before or after we enjoy eastern market.

    Vivio's for me!

    June 19

  • Michele

    I think Vivios - I need a bloody Mary.

    June 19

  • Tony B

    I am open to anything

    June 19

  • Kerry C.

Sala Thai, but if I am the only one interested for that I will do Vivo's

    June 19

  • Duane

    I choose Vivio's also.

    June 19

  • Sarah B.

While pizza is my fave and supinos is my top choice, I would like to not wait so long to eat so I guess vivios would be my pick

    June 19

  • John

I've never been to the Eastern Market but from the descriptions Vivio's looks very interesting. Could have something to do with the fact that I love a good bloody mary.

Donna, since I have never been to the Eastern Market I can not recommend a location. Also I will be returning from Cincinnati that morning and hopefully will not encounter any traffic delays. I will endeavor to arrive on time once a location has been determined.

I would suggest vivio's or the pizzeria. I have been to Roma cafe a handful of times and love the food and portions, however, maybe a bit too pricey and formal for a casual lunch walking Eastern market. Disclaimer: the last time I visited Roma cafe w girlfriend and another couple for dinner there was a drunk, overweight guy at a neighboring table w his drunk friend as they were allowed to bring their own liquor into the restaurant. They continued to make rude, suggestive comments to our ladies until I finally said something to the waiter and he said 'it's ok...they are regulars'. Not exactly the environment that I ever wish to return and pay premium prices.

    • Donna

I was just at Roma Cafe this past Saturday for lunch, prices for lunch are around $11.99. It was very good. There is just something about being served by Italian waiters dressed up in formal attire that is very appealing. :) I want to stress that I would like to split the group up to attend these restaurants, because they are very busy and I don't want to overwhelm one place. So if people can write down which one they prefer to attend. We'll work it all out. Re the pizzeria, Supino's is incredibly good, but it may take up to an hour for the pizza to be made and the place is tiny, so imagine no place to sit. Guess you can always order a pizza to go when you're about to leave... (a benefit this time, since your car is around the corner and not a mile and half away by the riverfront)
