Enough Said

A divorced and single parent, Eva (Julia Louis Dreyfus) spends her days enjoying work as a masseuse but dreading her daughter's impending departure for college. She meets Albert (James Gandolfini) - a sweet, funny and like-minded man also facing an empty nest. As their romance quickly blossoms, Eva befriends Marianne (Catherine Keener), her new massage client. Complications follow. Enough Said is a sharp, insightful comedy that humorously explores the mess that often comes with getting involved again.

Critics really like this movie. I just called them and it will definitely still be there. It's not a long movie so we might be able to head down to Top of the Hill on Franklin Street afterwards. If that sounds good, you might say so in the comments. No commitment -- it just gives me an idea of how people are inclined. [And it looks like they are inclined towards Oishii, so let's plan on that.]

When we went there before, they set us up with part of the group at a long, skinny table and part of the group at separate small tables, neither of which was conducive to conversation. Perhaps we could negotiate with them to set up the tables in a horseshoe shape so that they can maneuver for serving and we can have our discussion.

A comment about us in the restaurant: It might be a good idea for us to remember in future that we are still guests, even though we arrive in a large group, whether of not we have a reservation. (In this case we did not.) While we pay for the food and service, we do not own the space or the furniture. The late night staff was very gracious, but I think it was not our place to rearrange their tables loudly and for an extended amount of time.

That's the way I saw it, too, Janet. In fact, it was our waitress who first started moving chairs, and both staff members appeared to be laughing as hard as the rest of us. Hope I'm not mistaken in this, since that square table formation was definitely a highlight!

In any case, next time we have big numbers I will definitely call ahead. I'll probably do it right before we go in to the movie so I'll have an accurate head count.

I enjoyed the film! Sorry I was not able to meet with you all afterwards for I needed to pick up my son~ I do wonder what you all thought....do you think they stayed together or not....

ditto. Yes, I believe we created our own fun movie at Oishi.

Fun movie and evening! Looking forward to more like this. Anyone interested in the other movie that was being shown? Still There, or Still Mine....need to look that up......with the actor who played in "Babe".

Excellent performances, well drawn characters. Not quite as entertaining as rearranging the tables at Oishi afterwards, though.

The movie was great! And, the encore of table arranging was entertaining as well!

We missed you at the restaurant, Joya! Our end of the table really enjoyed the film, and particularly favored the awkward moments -- the fumbling sex scene (not enough of those in movies!) and the scene with the two couples trying to juggle their own competing agendas and still be part of a civilized (ha!) foursome.

Ugh, I have to skip it! Taught all weekend and have a big deadline tomorrow. If anyone else wants to meet up some other day to see it, I am game! Sorry to miss you!

Ming Garden right across the street is really good as well, but I just found out they shut down 2 days ago. Still have a hard time believing that.

Thanks, John, for doing my work for me by explaining all the options! I also think Oishii is a good option, so let's plan on that for those who are interested.

Oishi is fine, and it's right next door. Good idea, John. See you there!

I hope to make it to this one. It looks like a lot of fun.
I'd like to get together after the movie, too, but the problem with Margaret's is that they're only serve until 8:00 on Sunday. Sage is closed Sunday (sorry Louise). So is Queen of Sheba.
Oishi, good Japanese and sushi, also in Timberlyne, serves until 9:30. The movie's only 93 minutes so we might be able to get in a good hour or so there. Maybe longer lingering after they quit serving.
China Wok, a little farther up, next to Food Lion, is open until 10:00. That's the latest in Timberlyne or nearby that I can find.

Hi there! I also agree with wanting to stay closer to the theater to talk over the film... Margarita's Cantina sounds good to me!

    1 · October 4, 2013

I agree with Maggie, Mark. I'd love to talk the film over someplace nearby. Also, as a veggie, Top of the Hill isn't a fave...Margarita's Cantina, maybe?

Getting together afterwards sounds good to me but I'd prefer someplace closer to the theater rather than downtown, because I live northwest of town. I realize it's slim pickings around there, though.

I was supposed to see 'Something in the Air' but plans got waylaid so instead went to see 'Enough Said' in Southpoint. I was quite impressed with the writing, the well-drawn characters and the characterization of the actors, and like most Holofcener films, the lines are delivered the way I heard people deliver it. The characters are not your standard black-and-white cookie-cutters that serve as devices to advance the plot, but quite well-etched and nuanced without delving too much on their back stories. Like 'Prisoners' which I saw last week, this film is a gem of a movie.

Didn't this trailer run before The Butler? I knew it looked familiar! And fun! I have a book gig that weekend, but will try to make it.

I just saw an ad for this when I clicked on a YouTube video (the only advertising on YouTube I have ever not skipped!), and it looks really funny. Plus, anything Toni Collette is in is on my short list. I hope it shows on the 6th.
