I am trying to find words that are not hackneyed. Gripping, solemn, intense, frightening all come to mind. As much as I want to, the images from the movie are not easily pushed from my mind.

It's about time someone told the horrible tale the way it was: brutal.
The movie was brilliant and very painful to watch.
