In the 1970s, con artist Melvin Weinberg (Christian Bale) and his partner in crime, Maxine Gardner (Amy Adams), are forced to work with FBI agent Jimmy Boyle (Bradley Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and even politicians, including the volatile mayor of impoverished Camden, New Jersey.

Based on a true story of the FBI ABSCAM operation of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Directed by David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook '12, The Fighter '10, I Huckabees '04).

It wasn't my favorite movie, all the dishonesty/conning/hustling/real/not real was hard to know if I actually liked any of the characters but perhaps that's the whole point: hustle being the operative word. I did, however, enjoy the acting and the hair.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it. The first half hour or so I found slow and a little confusing but then it picks up steam and takes you on a great ride to the end. I'm hoping to join y'all for dinner.

I look forward to meeting some new members and seeing some new faces today! You can buy your tickets at the concession stand. Look for the group gathered in the middle of the lobby before show time. I will have a meetup sign at a table in the lobby. (If we have more than 10-12 interested in dinner afterwards; it may be best for us to split into two smaller groups for seating). See you there!

The movie was one of the best of 2013. Christian Bale never fails. The rest of the cast is superb.

I just had the pleasure of seeing the pre-screening of American Hustle at the Carolina Theater. In my opinion, it is an instant American Classic. The performances are astonishing and the film is full of juicy surprises, memorable lines, brilliant cinematography, and a rich 70's soundtrack. The story is loosely based on the Abscam affair which was a vehicle the Feds used to ensnare corrupt politicans. The ensemble cast is brilliant, with most of the actors playing squarely against type, but succeeding nonetheless. A crowning achievement for Director David O. Russell. If you were a fan of the inspired storytelling and flawless character development in his most recent films, Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter, it is my guess that you will be thoroughly entertained by this terrific film.

The great David O. Russell directs a true story of the FBI/ABSCAM operation that ran from 1975 to 1986 set in the impoverish area of South Philadelphia and Camden,New Jersey. "American Hustle" reunites "Silver Linings Playbook" players Bradley Cooper, Chris Tucker and Jennifer Lawrence(who won the Best Actress Oscar in 2012 for Silver Linings Playbook)along with Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams and Oscar nominee Christian Bale in a tale of greedy and corruption within the Jersey mafia and within the FBI.
