Begin Again

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (Once '06), Begin Again is a soul-stirring romantic comedy-drama about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta and her long-time boyfriend Dave are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan, a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City.

Starring: Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Catherine Keener

Running time: 1 hr 41 mins

Tickets are $8.75. Carmike Cinemas accepts cash, credit and debit cards.

I'm thrilled everyone liked it! I want to be in a band, performing on the streets now. That looked like a blast! :-)

BTW. You can (if you are a luddite, as I usually am) buy the physical CD for $12 on Amazon. Kind of interesting where things have gone with music marketing. Apparently, the publishing revolution has not been what some of us hoped for - but I guess that's the way it often goes with revolutions.

Since tomorrow night doesn't work for me, I went to see this last weekend. Great movie! Dying to hear what y'all think about it. :-)

The outdoor recording concept made me think of the endless hours I've spent on YouTube watching La Blogotheque Take Away Shows. Here are a few links to that, lots of great music/bands performing in Europe and recently Brazil...tons of good stuff to search through and listen! http://en.blogotheque.net/homepage/, http://en.blogotheque.net/,

Incredibly good, including the plot, the direction, the acting, and the songs. Uplifting and entertaining! It has a life of its own that no plot summary or review from me can begin to approach. I just bought the soundtrack on iTunes - something I (almost) never do. Trust me, just go out and see it.

Thinking about it... (Happy B'day Carl!) but the last experience with the group dining at Sake Bomb was just that- bombastic. Someone pls convince me it has gotten better.....yes?

Thank you, Miri. I was at Sake Bomb a few weeks ago to celebrate a birthday for a friend. Great food, service perhaps a bit sluggish. That was my first encounter with Sake Bomb, so I'm not very well equipped to lobby on their behalf ;-)

Did someone say East Village? In a former life I installed sound systems in the East Village. For the nostalgia value alone, it's a must see. And, although I've stopped counting them, it's my birthday - maybe I can finagle a free dessert from Sake Bomb ;-)
