I thought we might shake things up a bit and support a really phenomenal local independent theater company. For those of you who might not have heard of Forest Theater, it is a lovely outdoor amphitheater in the middle of UNC campus that does live performances. So let's go and see the 13th annual summer pageant of the Paperhand Puppet Intervention (which includes Giant puppets, masks, stilts and live music): City of Frogs
(pictures from previous performances)
"Paperhand Puppet Intervention proudly presents it's 13th annual summer spectacle:
CITY OF FROGS
NOTE: THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL KIDDY PUPPET SHOW BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION! IT IS TRULY A FASCINATING VISUAL EXPERIENCE WITH SOME PUPPETS LITERALLY 2 STORIES HIGH!!
Paperhand Puppet Intervention is a local theater company out of Saxapahaw that does truly astoundingly visual performances with all original content, scenery, score and HUGE puppets. You may have seen them at events like Festival on the Eno and local parades. The performances are also at the very impressive outdoor Forest Theater on UNC campus that looks a bit like a medieval fort.
You can go here to see pictures from some of their previous shows.
Tickets are available only at the performance. $12 adults, $8 for kids 3-12, 2 and under free. All shows start at 7:00 with a different pre-show each night at 6:20. This is a family friendly event, so children are welcome to attend and this event is cross posted with the Chapel Hill - Durham Hikers and Triangle Geeks Meetups.
Bring something soft to sit on since this is an outdoor stone amphitheater (not a chair - it blocks the view). Your beehind will thank me. :D
In City of Frogs, an ancient witch has traded her heart for eternal life with the mysterious Man of Beasts. A wooden boy, cut free by the Scissors of Fate, sets out on a journey to help the witch find what has been lost. Ignored by the busy population of the city, the boy must find friends in strange and forgotten places.
The show runs approximately an hour and a half with no intermission.
Forest Theater is located at the corner of Country Club Drive and Boundry St. in Chapel Hill on UNC campus. Here it's location on mapquest and you can get directions from your locations using it.
For parking, you can park along Country Club Blvd and Boundary Street. Here is a link to the Town of Chapel Hill Parking Information. According to their site, all parking at town meters and lots is free on Sunday.
