Race to Nowhere: Dark Side of America's Achievement Culture

This Award Winning Documentary conveys the concerns of what our high pressured, high stakes culture is doing to today's youth, educators, and parents. The pressure to perform is creating an epidemic of depression, anxiety, stress-related illness, and an environment where young people are unprepared and uninspired.

Well-constructed, interesting documentary, but I already knew much of the information.

Since the show is sold out, I suggest getting there a bit earlier, otherwise you will be parking faaaarrrr away.

    • Shawna

I've never been to the Rialto; is it street parking only?

      November 7, 2012

    • Kevin

yes , street parking only , there are plenty of side streets nearby to park on

      November 8, 2012

  • Marlys

Yikes, I don't have a ticket. Oh well! Next time.

    November 8, 2012

  • Daniel

The parking that I meant is south of the theater, on Glenwood Ave like going toward Wade Ave. or coming from Wade Ave. You have to look on the map.

    November 7, 2012

  • Daniel

Shawna, Leslie, park along Glenwood Ave or neighboring streets. DON'T park across at the gas station. I will be outside, by the front door. The seats inside are first come first serve. So we all need to walk in together if we want to sit together. I am planning to walk in 15 min earlier to get a good seat. I advise you all to be there at least 20 min. early. Remember the show is sold out, every seat in the theater will be occupied. In case that we end up separated, will regroup after the movie back outside by the front door. We will walk together to Lilly's Pizza. Anyway, if we get separated again just walk across the street at the pizza place. Really good pizza here.

  • Leslie

Yes ! Where is the best place to park, Daniel ? I am sure the street will fill up rather quickly !

    November 7, 2012

  • Daniel

Hello friends. Customary after shows we hang out somewhere near for discussions. The nearest place, within walking distance is Lilly's Pizza. http://lillyspizza.com/ Please join me for some.

    Dorothy,
Do you have tickets for us, or do we have to drive over to Glenwood to purchase our tickets in advance ?

    September 18, 2012

    • Leslie

Hi Dorothy ... thanks ! I saw you name on the top of the list and quickly assumed that you were the host :) ... I hope to see you soon.

Still trying to get used to my new phone... the thing keeps changing my words. Jacqui, I will take care of this event.

    September 19, 2012

    • Daniel

For sure I need to turn off some feature somewhere. For everything I type is trying to suggest other words and delete my typing. I need a 12 year old to help me.

      September 19, 2012

    • Jacqui

Daniel, if you have an iPhone, it is under Settings-General-Keyboard-Auto Correction - Turn to OFF. If is is any other phone, find a 12 yr old LOL

    Just got my ticket, 155 left . . .

Thank you thank you thank you, Daniel. Jacqui, thank you for updating the information above. Film does start at 7PM. Maybe we can meet 15 minutes early. I have to admit, I've never actually been to the Rialto. Does anyone have info on parking?

I have a ticket. Has anyone else gotten theirs?

    September 19, 2012

    • Elizabeth J.

Jan, there's no official lot, but there's tons of street parking on Glenwood and neighboring streets.

      September 19, 2012

    • Leslie

I just purchased mine yesterday ... thanks to Sarah and Dorothy :)

      September 19, 2012

  • Jacqui

I have updated the information for the event regarding Ticket purchasing. If someone wants to be the Event Host, please respond here after you get your ticket and we will make it happen. I cannot host this event as I usually am not available on Thursdays.

    September 18, 2012

  • Dorothy

I hope to make this, but Nov is a little far out for me to be a definite.

  • Sarah S.

I meant I *have* been busy with the baby. If anyone has problems ordering tickets, please let me know. This is the first event I've posted :)

    September 18, 2012

  • Sarah S.

    I purchased my tickets here:
    rtnrialtotheater.eventbrite.com

I ordered using a credit card. I would have posted sooner but haven't been busy with the baby :)

    September 18, 2012

  • Jacqui

It would be helpful if someone stepped up as the event host for this meetup and provide everyone with direction on how to proceed with ticket purchase, etc. Sarah, since you proposed the event, would like to be Host and do so? If not, maybe one of the other regulars can do as such. I would but cannot predict my schedule this far out and usually work on Thu nights. I just would not want those interested in attending to miss out.

    September 18, 2012

  • Elizabeth J.

Where do we buy the tickets in advance? The Rialto only takes cash, i.e. no credit card phone orders.

    September 18, 2012

  • Sarah S.

Yes, DEFINITELY, buy tickets early! There are 400 max and there were 180 left when I purchased mine yesterday! $10 each. I was told that this series sells out quickly. There will be a panel discussion afterwards.

    September 18, 2012

  • Leslie

Dorothy, if tickets sell out quickly, should we get them in advance ?

    September 18, 2012

  • Elizabeth J.

    Definitely interested.

    September 18, 2012

  • Sarah S.

I'm a teacher, so obviously a film of interest to me!
