"Searching for Sugar Man" Full Frame Winter Series

SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN Directed by Malik Bendjelloul
2011 / Sweden, UK / 85 minutes

SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest ’70s rock icon who never was. Discovered in a Detroit bar in the late ’60s by two celebrated producers struck by his soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics, they recorded an album which they believed would secure his reputation as the greatest recording artist of his generation. In fact, the album bombed and the singer disappeared into obscurity amid rumors of a gruesome on-stage suicide. But a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa and, over the next two decades, he became a phenomenon. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero. Their investigation leads them to a story more extraordinary than any of the existing myths about the artist known as Rodriguez.

    Shawna,
Thanks for heads up. I have tried Pandora couple of times in the past and found the music too mainstream. But, if Rodridguez is there I will revisit. THANKS!

We only saw half of those that signed up. Hopefully we didn't miss any of the new folks that made it. I thought it was a fascinating film.

Currently Carolina Theatre says they will show the film tonight. There will be updates on their Facebook page and possibly the FB page for Full Frame also. I will update if I hear any changes.

Get real! It's 50 degrees in Durham, the ground is soaked. There is no way any snow will be sticking, even on grassy areas, unless it is way after mid night.

Sorry: have to cancel for tonight!

Sharon, if you would like to try to save us a block that would be great. I was planning on getting there 6:30-6:45 and waiting with my Meetup sign near the concession bar. There's a chance of winter weather (sleet, snow) for parts of the Triangle tomorrow evening, so hopefully the event won't get cancelled. Weather permitting, I'd be open to going for dinner afterward. Maybe we could try Toast?

From Weather.com it looks like rain at the start of the movie and "Heavy Snow" by the time we would be leaving. With my 2-seater little car that will make me a no show. Any word from Carolina Theater?

Since the movie is free, should some of us arrive earlier than normal to snag seats?

    January 12, 2013

    • Sharon B

Unless our numbers double there should plenty of seats. But I will be there at 6pm if you want to come early.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
