CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: "IN-THE-WORKS" SESSION AT FULL FRAME

Presented by DocuClub and the Southern Documentary Fund

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: MARCH 9, 2007

The Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) invites documentary filmmakers to
submit their works-in-progress to be screened at the Full Frame
Documentary
Film Festival. Celebrating their fifth anniversary, SDF is honored to
partner with Full Frame to offer this exciting opportunity to North
Carolina
documentary artists.

This year, Full Frame will take place from April 12 to 15. The
"In-the-Works" program is on Sunday, April 15, from 3:45-6 p.m. The
"In-the-Works" session offers filmmakers the opportunity to receive a
frank
and honest critique from a dedicated assembly of their peers and serious
documentary enthusiasts.

"In-the-Works," like its home-grown counterpart "Fresh Docs:
Works-in-Progress (presented by SDF and the Center for Documentary
Studies
at Duke University)presents audiences with a unique opportunity to see
documentaries at different stages of production; viewers are encouraged
to
give constructive feedback about the structure, content, artistic merit,
and
clarity of the film. The post-screening discussion will be facilitated
by a
moderator, and the session will be recorded for filmmakers for review.

An "In-the-Works" submission does not need to have a final sound mix
or
color correction, but there should be a clear narrative structure - a
story
an audience can follow without a lot of explanation by the filmmaker.
Large
gaps in audio or picture are not encouraged. Ideally, filmmakers submit
their best cut, and arrive Sunday afternoon ready to listen to a
constructive and direct critique of their work.

Conversely, if a filmmaker feels his/her documentary is a finished
project
and is not open to significant changes in structure or focus,
"In-the-Works"
is not the appropriate screening venue.

There are no length requirements for submission, though "In the Works"
is
generally geared toward feature length projects. A committee of SDF
board
members and invited filmmakers will choose one to two projects to
feature in
this session. The committee may choose to screen the entire work or a
select
a portion of the film.

SUBMISSIONS MUST COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:

* Must be made by North Carolina filmmakers

* Must be in the final stages of completion

* Must be a documentary (please contact SDF with any questions about
the
appropriateness of your project).

* Filmmakers must be agree to be present at the Full Frame event

*Please submit a VHS or DVD copy

* Submissions must include contact information and a short description

The Southern Documentary Fund

In 2002, a collective of North Carolina-based media artists and their
supporters came together to create The Southern Documentary Fund. The
Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) encourages documentary media projects
made
within or about the American South. We are an organization that
passionately
believes that the stories of the American South have national and
international significance, and that the documentary artists living in
the
region deserve support and recognition.

In the past five years, almost 50 documentary projects have received
fiscal sponsorship through SDF. The work of SDF artists has been
broadcast
nationally and internationally, screened at hundreds of festivals around
the
world, and is being used as effective tools for education and community
development. For more information, please go to
