Winner of the 2012 "Best of Phoenix" Winter Hike Picacho Peak offers a beautiful 360 degree views from the top. Unfortunately getting up there isn't as easy as everyone thinks. This popular short 3-4 miles (RT) hike proves time and again as being the most unique and challenging but fun climbs I've ever done.

This hike isn't for everyone. And I couldn't stress this enough... This is a difficult strenuous hike with steep climbs. At multiple points on the hike you will need to use upper body strength just to pull yourself up on cables and hand rails. Also there are areas you are standing on steel beams because there isn't anything else to standon. So if your fearful of heights or falling this isn't the hike for you, unless you want to conquer that fear in one hike.

For more information log on to http://azstateparks.com/Parks/PIPE/index.html

There is a $10 per car charge with a mininum of 4 people per vehicle, so if your carpooling bring money to help pay fee

We will meet at the Starbucks parking lot near the intersection of Cortaro Farms Rd. and Arizona Pravilion Drive. Then carpool to Picacho Peak. Look for me parked in a Silver Jeep Liberty. Starbucks parking lot is small so if you can meet up and carepool there that would be great.

Plan for it to take about 3.5 to 4 hours total. The drive there and back about 45min - 1 hour and the hike about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Must Haves:

  • 3+ liters of water
  • GLOVES!!!
  • Snack food
  • Sunscreen
  • Durable hiking shoes/boots
  • GLOVES!!!
  • Money to help pay car fee

Hope to see you all!

Another great day with some great hikers up Picacho Peak. Thank you for not bailing because of the possible rain.

No rain is going to keep me away from Picacho. It should clear up during the hike. Just don't forget your gloves. It's going to be a little slippery;D

This WILL BE A FAST PACE HIKE. So if your not up to a RUN up the peak and an HARM EXERCISE maybe this isn't for you. Basically no one slower then Bob :-)

Hmm.. "no one slower than Bob" -- Hehe, I guess you are referring to ME ??

Tell ya' what Teri, how about the last person up buys ice cream for the first 3 people to reach the summit ? We can do this after we finish the hike. There is an ice cream shop directly across from the park. BTW -- I doubt that I will be buying, but... we shall see ;-) -- Slow man Bob
