In spite of nearly 2 years of frequent hiking around Tucson, I still have not climbed Mt Wrightson -- time to rectify that!
Distance: Around 11 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: Over 4000'
Dogs: bring one! But be sure it can manage the hike
This hike is not suitable for beginners (human or canine). Hikers & dogs should be in good physical condition. This is a strenuous, all day hike.
For a full hike description and directions to the trailhead, please see the Sierra Club's Tucson Trail Guide description here: http://arizona.sierraclub.org/trail_guide/hike20.htm. But note that we're not following this exact route, we'll ascend via Old Baldy (instead of Vault Mine).
We'll meet for carpooling at the Starbuck's in the shopping mall at I19 and Irvington Rd, at about 7am. We will depart at 7:15am promptly, I don't want to keep anyone waiting at the trailhead. Directions: I19 south to Irvington Rd, go west on Irvington and turn left into the mall at the first light west of the freeway overpass - there is a Chevron right there. After turning in, take the first right down to the Starbuck's, which is tucked behind the McDonald's. I'll be hanging around outside the Starbuck's, looking like a hiker!
If you'd prefer to meet at the trailhead, please be there at 8am. We'll start the hike from the Roundup trailhead, which is at the end of the main Madera Canyon road. Look for me at the upper end of the parking area, where the Old Baldy trail starts
If you will be at the carpool location, please say so in your RSVP so we know to wait for uou. But, note that I give only 5min grace so please try to be there before 7:15am.
-3+ liters of water
-full lunch and snacks
-Layers, it may be cool up top, and there's a storm coming in the next day
Hike at your own risk
If you can't make it, please update your RSVP, even if it's at the last minute. This warns me not to wait for you, and allows anyone on the waitlist to come. If you change your mind about the hike, update your RSVP as early as you can. If you are coming but running late, call me on [masked].
