Hutch's Pool Deja Vu

When someone (Paul) posts a great idea for a hike, why not steal the idea?  Especially when members are also asking for a weekend version of the hike.

Hutch's Pool is a year round pool that is always deep enough to swim in with a nice beach.  This is an out and back hike.

  • Round Trip Distance: 7.8 miles
  • Elevation Gain: 647 feet
  • Accumulated Gain: 1,770 feet
  • Avg Round Trip Time: 4 hours (not including tram ride)

We will meet at the Sabino Canyon Visitor (tram ticket booth) center at 8:30 am and take the tram to bus stop 9 and hike 4 miles to Hutch's Pool.  If you want, you can choose to walk the tram road or the Phoneline Trail, which will add about another 8 round trip miles.  If you do plan to walk then give yourself plenty of time to get to bus stop 9 by 9:25 am.  The first tram leaves at 9:00 am and arrives at bus stop 9 at approximately 9:25 am.

The tram tickets are $8 and they only accept CASH.  Please try to arrive early so you don't miss getting a ticket for the 9 am tram ride.

Rating: C – C+ Intermediate: There are steep switch backs starting at bus stop 9 to Sabino Canyon Trail Head but from there it is a fairly level hike and easy hiking.

Please state in your RSVP if you intend to walk instead of taking the tram.

No Dogs Please

What to bring:

  • Water: 2- 3 Liters
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks
  • Swimwear

NOTE: If you did Paul's hike on Tuesday, you may be bumped if there is a waiting list.  So, yes, preference will given to those who were not able to go on Paul's hike.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hike. It was my first time to see Hutch's pool. It was beautiful and definitely worth the hike.

Nice workout made a little more difficult by my hike up Blackett's Ridge the day before. Enjoyed the water as always. I think it is the calming sound it makes.

Well that was unfortunate. Parking lot was filled to capacity; I drove 'round and 'round and never could find a spot. Would have parked out on the edge of the street but a cop was there shooing people away. Sorry to have taken up a slot. :\

Ah, not your fault. I didn't know about the overflow parking. My bad!

After I de-frazzled from the parking chaos, and having arrived half-packed, it was a great day! I'll definitely hike this trail again. Wish I could have meandered back with you guys; missing the camaraderie kind-of defeats the point of a Meetup! Alas, my "we'll be there between two and four" washer delivery popped up just yesterday. Thanks for organizing, Don, and pacing, Brian, and for helping me out with my time management, Bill!

haha! I was actually thinking this started at 11:30 but then I remembered my phone is currently in the Eastern time zone! So never mind, I wouldn't have been able to go anyway!

How about some hikes on the west side, in the Tucson Mountain Park? That's a long way for us who live on the sw side of Tucson. Just a suggestion.
