Friday Night Sabino Stroll

Come join us for our weekly hike and socializing afterward at Risky Business! This is a great hike for new members. We normally walk up the tram road and enjoy the evening views of the canyon. Most folks turn around after 2 miles, but some hardy folks go the entire 7.4 miles to the end of the tram road and back. Everyone walks at a different pace, and so normally we break up into smaller groups as we are walking.  When we get to the 2 mile rock we usually regroup before returning to the visitor center. The group that leaves at 7pm walks a little faster than 2 miles per hour. The group that leaves at 6 walks even faster, nearly 4 miles per hour. Please consider these speeds and your abilities when deciding to join us. If you cannot keep up, be prepared to hike by yourself.

We are hiking in the dark, so please make sure you have a good flashlight. The rattlesnakes are out.

We'll meet at the ramada (covered patio) in front of the Sabino Canyon Visitor's Center at 7 PM, do a quick round of introductions and start hiking shortly thereafter.

Those wishing to walk the entire road should start with the 6:00 PM group if you intend to join the later starters at Risky Business (Kolb/Sunrise).   Please indicate on your RSVP if you will be joining the 6:00PM group.

Stroll at your own risk. Be prepared for possible rain.

If no host is present at the appointed time (+5 Mins), begin the stroll anyway.

See you there!

Another beautiful night in the canyon. Great to see so much water and so many people. A good stroll to say goodbye to Don.

Nice time. Lots of "wildlife." Particularly fascinating to see the tarantula hawk taking out the big tarantula. Looked it up when home; not a nice demise for the spider!

Sure.....I can do that but you are right the 6pm group does not need a host but there are times that new persons attend and I can at least be a greeter until 6:05pm and then begin the hike.

My first hike with the group. Any special tips I should know/be prepared for?

    July 9, 2013

    • Philip M.

Beyond what is mentioned in the description above, nothing especially. Water and a flashlight are strongly recommended, but not strictly required. Its not a particularly difficult hike, but the animals are out.

I suppose we need flash lights?

    July 7, 2013

    • Philip M.

Flashlights are strongly recommended, Catherine. Rattlesnakes, tarantulas, toads and more can be found on the roads we'll be walking on.

Gonna try again to make it to the 6 pm but if I get stuck in traffic I will go with the 7 pm :)
