Friday Night Sabino Stroll

Come join us for our weekly hike and socializing afterward at Risky Business! This is a great hike for new members. We normally walk up the tram road and enjoy the evening views of the canyon. Most folks turn around after 2 miles, but some hardy folks go the entire 7.4 miles to the end of the tram road and back. Everyone walks at a different pace, and so normally we break up into smaller groups as we are walking.  When we get to the 2 mile rock we usually regroup before returning to the visitor center. The group that leaves at 7pm walks a little faster than 2 miles per hour. The group that leaves at 6 walks even faster, nearly 4 miles per hour. Please consider these speeds and your abilities when deciding to join us. If you cannot keep up, be prepared to hike by yourself.

We are hiking in the dark, so please make sure you have a good flashlight. The rattlesnakes are out.

We'll meet at the ramada (covered patio) in front of the Sabino Canyon Visitor's Center at 7 PM, do a quick round of introductions and start hiking shortly thereafter.

Those wishing to walk the entire road should start with the 6:00 PM group if you intend to join the later starters at Risky Business (Kolb/Sunrise).   Please indicate on your RSVP if you will be joining the 6:00PM group.

Stroll at your own risk. Be prepared for possible rain.

If no host is present at the appointed time (+5 Mins), begin the stroll anyway.

See you there!

I saw lights coming down off of Phoneline as we were going up canyon. Was that your group?

Hope you're feeling better. I wanted feedback on getting setup to lead hikes. Don, at tonight's walk, said he'd check with you. Please advise.

I think the "shutdown" is keeping some people away. I parked up north of the entrance where there were no "No Parking" signs and had no problem "strolling down" to the ramada.

Greg , Barbara and I parked in a parking lot about 1/2 from the enterance. it was a business parking lot just south of some luxury condos south of the park on the west side of the road.

Bob, this still doesn't answer the question, "Where CAN I park nearby?" Is it cool to park in any of the school areas that are directly across the road? Or should I plan on walking in from one of the mini-malls about half a mile south on Sabino?

Bill? Phillip? C'mon, dudes, you're the Fearless Leaders of this mob. :) What's the story, please?

Greg, we don't know anymore than you do. Parking in one of the mini-malls is a good option. That's what I will do.

Since I live right by the park, I'll answer Steve's question for those that don't know. The park is closed, the entrance is barricaded off. You can walk into the park from the street, but cars cannot access the parking lot. People are parking on the side of the road and walking in, but there are no parking signs, and I have seen the police there twice (during the day) ticketing parked cars, so park accordingly
